Hassan Haskins profile

I thought that this Daily article about Haskins was interesting. I knew that he didn't have close to the recruiting accolades of Charbonnet, but had forgotten that his only power 5 offer besides Michigan was Purdue. I had also forgotten that they moved him to linebacker early on. This is another example where Jay Harbaugh's value on the staff goes well beyond his last name.

Not suprising after Nebraksa that Haskins was 2nd in the state of Missouri in the high jump.  Anyway here's the story:

After reading this I went back read Ace's "hello" piece which includes, as a comparison, Higdon.  That seems apt for a guy who wasn't the biggest name coming out of high school, but who also got better and better.

Brian's recruiting summary post had a YMRMFSPA comp to Brandon Minor which seems pretty on the money, though I don't remember Minor being as agile as Haskins is.

It will be very interesting to see what the NFL does with Haskins. The talk seems to be hinting at him leaving for the league this year, but he could stay if he wanted to. Haskins has shown a lot of ability, but some of his numbers (his 40 in particular) won't stack up. I still think he gets drafted but potentially not very highly.

I still liked the quote from his HS coach who basically said "if you want a 60-yard gain just give him the ball twice and he'll give you two 30-yard gains back-to-back".  He's not necessarily going to burn past everyone but he's a really good runner with plus athleticism and a bruising approach.  I think it's telling that UM lost Charbonnet and Turner, two guys who have found success elsewhere at the P5 level, and the running game didn't miss a beat.  Lots of credit to Haskins for that.

Haskins is one of the most interesting RBs I've ever seen at Michigan. He's the king of unmeasurables.

He obviously lacks speed. I'm looking forward to seeing his other combine numbers. I'd expect a good vertical leap. They don't directly measure leg strength and of course there's no way to measure vision or toughness.

Hope he at least gets a shot in the league. He likely won’t be a feature back anywhere and I don’t see him being able to be a third down back who catches the ball out of the backfield, but he’s still got the ability to carve out a role somewhere with the right team.

he's gone from a straight line runner to a guy with some agility... but still the ability to put his head down and push the pile. Love the 2 pronged attack. I hope Corum is the x-factor against osu after the bad game he had against msu. Hassan can carry (literally) us on his back. Lets get them to 1000x1000. and lets get donovan ready for a big bowl game..

The fact that Haskins can produce at RB and on special teams (he has that role presently and obviously has some linebacker qualities based on his recruiting profile) will likely see him land a spot on an NFL roster and hold it down for a while. He can definitely contribute on a good team a la Brandon Bolden.

Also a big fan of Haskins. Very rarely do you see him get tackled backwards or even stood up, especially by a solo tackler. He runs hard, but still has the vision and athleticism to pop some big ones. I had huge hopes for Charbonnette and am glad he’s found success back home, but Hassan clearly made him expendable. And let’s be real, that was a move that was great for both parties because the splitting of carries last year was atrocious. Pick a top 2 and feed them.
