Harbaugh to cameo coach Tigers Wednesday

Submitted by Wolverine Incognito on

According to Katie Strang of ESPN Harbaugh is going to guest coach the Detroit Tigers as 1st Base coach for at least an inning this Wednesday in Florida.

I wonder what problems the SEC will have with this?

Keep waving 'em round Coach!

Greg Sankey is probably going to say something like "Harbaugh coaching first base for the Tigers, is going to make the players watch the Tigers, and some of the players probably hate baseball, and that isn't fair for the players. Also, if the intention of the the trip is football, then no baseball should be allowed."

The real pity is, of course, what the SEC and ACC have done to themselves - I am assuming their coaches aren't allowed to coach first base, even for an inning, outside of a fifty mile radius of their own school either. I assume that is to prevent undue competition for recruits who might also want to coach first base at some point in their careers.

is what you think is too much, not sleepovers or wrestling with recruits (which I think is totally fine and hilarious but is still pretty crazy), but a "celebrity" apperance at a spring training game, something that is not at all unheard of? Heck, several celebs have played in spring training games like Billy Crystal with the Yankees and just last year Will Ferrell. Harbaugh was a guest coach with Oakland last spring training.

"That's Jim's creativity in spreading himself out and having these football practices," Hurdle told the Bradenton Herald following Pittsburgh's workout Friday at Pirates City. "Once they found out they were going to be successful in planning something at IMG, they did reach out to us, Jon on Jim's behalf about hopefully coming over that day, getting their players out to a game. Harbaugh is actually going to coach first base for the Tigers. I told him with his passion for stirring things up, why wouldn't he just half the game coach the game for the Pirates. I don't think that'll fly, but that's right up his alley. I've encouraged him to try and get out early to spend some time with our group and our team before the Tigers get onto the field."

Even through the lean years, Hurdle has always stayed true to his support for UM. "I'm still excited by Michigan football," he said. "And I've been with them through thick and thin. And the revitalization of last year was fun to watch. I've got the helmet and I support the team."
