part of george washington's 1789 proclamation setting aside this day: 

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation—for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war—for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed—for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted—for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

I haven't visited the message boards around here in quite a long while, let alone posted.  Thought I'd log in today to join in a civil celebration of my favorite day of the year.  Happy Thanksgiving y'all!

Also, is this xtra melanin? one of my 3 or 4 favorite folks around here.  Sharing many interests and zero politics and and as much civility as is musterable (sic).  If so, an especially, venison rich, Happy Thanksgiving to you sir.

Turkey is on the smoker. Got a bunch of finger foods and dips and whatever made up last night.  

Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you Michigan fans! I'm trying a new turkey recipe today and feeling lots of anxiety. A buttermilk brine + the flavors from Chicken Marbella, which was a popular recipe from a 1980's cookbook that was a riff on Spanish flavors -- prunes, olives, capers, garlic, oregano, brown sugar, and bay leaves. Could be the best turkey ever, or the worst. Thank god for mashed potatoes and gravy. Go Blue!

Happy Thanksgiving, friends!

I appreciate the day set aside to join with friends and family and to remember the blessings.

Among other things, it helps put Saturday into perspective.

Enjoy your families. Enjoy the rest. Enjoy the world having to focus on the Lions once a year just like us. Eat, laugh, and rejoice. God is good.
