Hal Mumme contacts NCAA about Orgeron blocking satellite camps

Submitted by Cruzcontrol75 on
"The kids that got hurt are not the kids LSU and Texas are going to recruit," Mumme said during his appearance on 99.1 The Game. This is a concept that LSU & SEC slappys can't comprehend. Mumme is alleging that DIII Belhaven cancelled a satellite camp after being pressured by LSU. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2715853-hal-mumme-says-he-turned-lsu…

Orgeron seems to have pushed the envelope a bit too far.

The issue with LSU and the SEC is not that they can't comprehend the concept that the non-P5 kids are getting hurt, the issue is that they don't care.

The last point is spot on. People want to act like it's a situation were southern coachs who are blocking camps, or against them at all, somehow don't realize they are hurting non power 5 type athletes. They realize this, but don't care because the camps make life harder for them. It's a situation where adults are screwing kids out of opportunities to protect there career self interests. And is pretty disheartening.

Out of sight, out of mind, as they say.

I think guys like Orgeron realize what they're doing to these kids, but it's not like they ever have to look these kids in the eye and tell them they're sorry for cancelling satellite camps. They do it because it makes life easier for them, and they can put it in the back of their minds, never think about it, because they never have to meet the kids they're affecting.

It's a chickenshit move by lazy assholes.

This is just the work of an overzealous substitute teacher, trying to flex his muscle so he’s taken seriously. I look forward to Orgerons inevitable firing in two seasons time

The shitty part is now LSU has decided to pay their OC and DC a combined $3.5 million. Aranda and Canada are arguably the best coordinator combo in the country. All Coach O has to do is be a cheerleader. They'll have success, and I feel bad for Les because it will undermine what a great coach he was considering what he did with way less.

This whole thing is just so gigantically stupid.  LSU has a ton of advantages in recruiting Louisiana kids and for the most part, get the players they want out of the state.  So why take the PR and goodwill hit on this?  I get this is a power move, but it burns capital and it does it for reasons that are unclear beyond Orgeron throwing his weight around(which I guess may be the payoff in and of itself).

What's even more stupid (in my opinion) is that Orgeron already took a hit with New Orleans high schools because of his firing of coach after Signing Day, who was very well respected in the community. Apparently that was mended, but how do you think high school coaches feel about their kids not getting as many opportunities to get recruited by schools who have been signing their players from out of state (meaning smaller schools that would never go to D1 or Power 5)? This in my opinion is going to hurt LSU recruiting worse than an "invasion."

Sam Webb and Ira talked about this topic extensively the other day, but the most shocking thing in that discussion wasn't the fact that Orgeron was strong-arming smaller schools but that Politicians were getting involved, which sounded more like pressure regarding public funding of their athletic programs i.e. field maintenance expenses and equipment/gear (which of course these schools rely on). It's getting ugly down there, and the NCAA is most likely going to be forced to step in. I think I heard that they forced the cancellation of four camps with Texas in Louisiana, and this is on top of other cancellations/forceouts involving Michigan and a few other Power 5 schools. It's not just that LSU and "politicians" are abusing their powers but that these smaller universities rely on the funds brought in from these camps to help fund their Athletics programs.

Mumme is just mad he's not doing very well at the box office. I mean, who wants to lose to a version of themself headlined by Brandon Fraser???

Do we really think that Texas wouldn't have the ability to get kids interested in them that might not otherwise because of their participation in a camp?  I feel like we have gotten kids from our participation at these camps, no?  And, even if the rival local school didn't offer the kid we got I'm sure there was the intention to camp at places where there is more talent to create relationships and culture of kids from that area to go to UM so that they can have more success recruiting that area down the road.

I just wish everyone would be upfront and say "Listen, my job is the win football games and I don't want any school taking any kids we might be interested in getting.  I'm sorry if that hurts some borderline or lesser kids we aren't as interested in, but that's life.  It's competitive and we are doing whatever is neccessary within the rules to win."

You want these SEC coaches who lie and lay around for a living to be suddenly up front and honest to it's detractors and competitors as well as their wives, oh yeah I already said their detractors. But I digress, isn't that like asking a predator in the wild to warn it's prey in advance of an attack? Rediculous I know, but humor me. You might get a snicker out of them but the next thing you will be shown besides the door, is how sneaky a predator can be in stalking and capturing it's prey. A exercise in futility are probably the words I was looking for.

Yup, that's what I want.  If you have intergrity and believe in what you're doing you don't have to mislead anyone.  You can be upfront about your intentions and people may not like, but they will respect it.  You see it with Harbaugh and other coaches like Greg Popovich.  I think people respect that much more, even if they disagree with your tactics, than if you are a disengenous like a Tressel.

coach taking up the fight with Harbaugh and letting the NCAA know they are hurting kids, not top flight recruits who will get their scholies. Rather thousand of other kids who could learn from top coaches and maybe make a lower division team and continue to play football in college.

Chickenshit move by a chickenshit coach. Enjoy the power you have while you have it, Orgeron. Pretty soon everyone is going to realize that you can't beat Alabama either, and then you'll be out of another job.

SEC fans, coaches, TV personalities, broadcasters, commissioners, etc. are simply the biggest douches in all of college football. They are absolutely terrified of a level playing field, yet constantly talk shit about how great they are and how they can't be beaten. It's pathetic.

Good for Hal. A grassroots effort is what is needed to put these idiots in their place. We all know the NCAA on it's own won't do anything.

In two years Bayou Brady will be an assistant at Texas Tech or some shit. Bummer that he had to be an ass so quick but he's not going to last long going 8-4 at LSU (8-4 is generous). Furthermore, what a hypocrite Ed has become. 2/3 of LSU's 2017 class was out-of-state. Only 1/2 of the current class is in-state. If he had any integrity, after the crap he's pulled, he wouldn't recruit outside the state of Louisiana. Was it not recently that a number of Louisiana high schools banned Ed?

I would love to see the pics the SEC has on the NCAA, the power they wield over that organization is intimidating. They (SEC) can snap their fingers and they can get a rule change or a rule instated in an staggering short amount of time, Then turn around a have said rule instated removed, rescinded, and or banished. All the while the SEC makes a mockery of the NCAA by disreguarding the rules (that could destroy any athletic program, at any college, across the country) they can't change so easily.

This is an honest question would anyone care to speculate on what they think is the reason the SEC thumbs their nose at the NCAA? Or am I just another jealous slappy from another conference who is trying to make a chicken dinner with chicken shite?
