Gregg Henson reaction

Submitted by Gucci Mane on
As many of us know Gregg Henson was updating the coaching search the whole way. Many of us were very interested in what he had to say, and after he was proven correct there was even an appreciation thread for him.

However he is now directly calling out MGOBLOG for what appears to be a few individuals who didn't put any stock into what he was saying.

I personally was reading his blog and putting a decent amount of stock into what he said. It's sad to see a guy, who was much appreciated by many here, call out the blog as a whole.

salvo, and I thought he made some pretty good points.  I certainly appreciated his snippets throughout, despite many here calling him a hack.  Hard to believe HARBAUGH could possibly have a divisive effect, let's just all get along and enjoy the breath of fresh air starting around halftime of the Illinois game

The outer and louder edges of opinion will always generate visceral reaction. This is nothing new. Rupert Murdoch's bank accounts are all the proof one needs. Gregg is just another example.

He's right.. He has batted .1000 for quite some time now (Hoke, Brandon, Harbaugh) and all he has gotten for it is ridicule from a bunch of people.

To Gx3, a lot of people around these parts have shit on him quite a bit. Say what your will about his personality, politics, and non-sports related opinions, but the man was spot on about JH this year. Sad that he needs to run around saying I told you so, but whatever. Jim Harbaugh is the next Head Coach of the University of Michigan Football Team. That is all that matters.

He kept the drum banging about Harbaugh for a timeline that doesn't align with reality. Once the story comes out on the process it'll be clear it was much more truncated and much more condensed than Henson or Wiley have claimed.

I'm not the biggest Brian fan but he was the most accurate "reporter" on this whole thing because he presented how unclear and murky it was while these keyboard warriors swung for the fences on a 50/50 issue.

Check out what happened when he tried to report shifts in recruiting...

Just as a few people here were starting to see him as "legit," he had to "show his ass."  It is really cool that he feels MGoBlog is important enough to bitch about, though.

Sorry, I think sometimes MGOBLOG get’s a little too cutesy with their posts.

He is right. I didn't read the one he was referring to and I usually love the writing on here but at times there is a tendency for posts to rely on memes and saying the right thing for internet points. Hell, in the last two days I saw several topics with 100+ comments mostly about grammar in the OP.

Oh well. There are a ton of opportunities for OC now.

Sorry the guy feels that way about MGoBlog. Perhaps he should find some other reading material. He should remember you will never please everyone all the time.

Keeping in mind the rivals posters and guys on the edge of the Internet have been very accurate and timely? Those guys also aren't click seekers trying to make a couple of bucks on ad sales.

So, I could be wrong, but what was he 1at at reporting or what specifics did only he know/ report first?

If you compare him to NFL reporters or Sam or Tom Beaver, then he's certainly more linked in, but he could just be rehashing rivals and the edge posts/ chats. I haven't cared enough to keep track, but all of the info I have seen from him was on there also (and I think first).

Generally bronx writes good diaries but he did sort of deface Gregg in that post, so I dont agree with his assessment of Gregg.

I dont think Gregg ripped the whole blog - he wrote it is kind of snarky, hipster-y and insider joke-y.... and it is.  It takes a while to figure what the hell goes on around here.  Seth said on the appreciation thread for Henson that he is a "one source" guy so that seems to be one of the main reasons he is shunned.  Personally I dont care if it is 1 source - that 1 source has been hitting it out of the park.    You can see all the crap being spewed by national NFL writers - so I dont think many out there with much louder voices than Henson are "multi sourcing" anything.  Brian is more old school and like a "journalist" of 25 years ago. (i.e. conservative)

Anyhow don't get too concerned with these turf wars.  Gregg won over a lot of people with whatever his methodology is and no I dont think it has anything to do with throwing crap on a wall or flipping a coin X number of times and calling it correct 8x in a row.

MGoBlog is a collection of people all with different opinions.  Not everyone is going to be showing an outpouring of affection so where Gregg is wrong is taking that 1 blog post and thinking it represents either the management or the majority.   It's a diary - one dude's thoughts.

Gregg has an ego and a big one.  And he will probably not get much credit at all other than from a bunch of twitter people - so I am sure that doesnt make him happy.  Then when he sees a post like bronx's about how he is random and throwing crap against the wall it just adds to that frustration.

Anyhow move on - nothing to see here.  Just egos.

Wasn't he the idiot who released excerpts of an email former Michigan athletes were sending to each other complaining about Brandon? He royally screwed up his presentation of that information and created a mess of it.

I wasn't involved too much in the conversation, but much of the reason that Gregg Henson stuff was getting removed early on (not all of it, and you'll note that we eventually backed off this) was that he initially was very fuzzy about the mechanics of sourcing, not so much the sources per se and that, yeah, the abrasiveness didn't help that either. There was never an insta-ban type thing going like with Ace Williams, but there was more a "proceed with extreme caution" for reasons indicated in the mod sticky.Of course, that was all weeks ago. Now, I am just glad we can move on and there's one less thing to monitor.

This distinction.  Seems to complain about prose style of front page posts from the staff and at the same time bitch about this particular reader post as if it comes from same staff.  Whatever.  Congrats for calling it but the retrospective I told you so is weak sauce.

There is a difference between being correct (MGoBlog) and events unfolding that correspond to a certain prediction (Henson).

One is properly providing an assessment of the current situation; the other essentially is a lucky guess on a future event.

These are far from the same thing and require, shall we say, different skill sets.

Being consistent throughout this search. The reality of it is his statements are true and its unfortunate that Brian was quoting "those who stay", who is still annonymous, more than Henson whose track record recently has been 100%. Glad we got Harbaugh & ill be giving Henson much more credibility in the future.

There were multiple threads created discussing (attacking) Thosewhostay7 legitimacy as a source. Just an observation (suggestion), maybe we shouldn't all be so quick to cannibalize any one who attempts to share what they believe to be credible information from a credible source moving forward. In the long run, it might not be a winning formula for operating a site that deals in privately sourced information to begin with. I will sit back and wait for my group negging and ridicule now. Why because I can take it. I might not be the hero this board wants right now. But I can be the hero it needs.

Ugh this is also the wrong approach. It doesn't always have to be one extreme or another.

There is a middle ground where people posting new info aren't attacked and canniballized and unnecessarily accused of being wrong while at the same time not believing everything they say.

Take it in, take a note of who provided the information, and assign it some level of credibility you can tweak as you go. Do a shorter version of the process Brian uses for searchbits. Sometimes, especially during these coaching searches or recruiting, statements may be true, false or subject to change. Assigning them black or white, right or wrong, is a silly way to go about things.

So, he did all that reporting just so he can say "I told you so"? You got fed inside info. You used people for their information to gain personal gratification. Congrats. You still suck.
