Great AED Season Preview w comments from coaching staff

I listened to the Attack Each Day Season Preview podcast earlier this morning.  Some really interesting insights from Chris Partridge, Don Brown, and Josh Gattis and worth a listen if you have the time.

Executive Summary: lots of attention to detail in all phases of the game and like drinking kool-aid from a fire hydrant.

The Brandon interview wasn't bad, if you're able to stifle your gag reflex on the thought of it.  But JH and DB actually seemed to get along quite well, and there was zero talk about sports when he was AD.  He mostly talked about donations and building renovations.  Just remember that Harbaugh invited him onto the show, as that may help reduce the gag reflex...

I hope they intentionally left out the part that every day they are preparing for The Game.  I mean they have to don't they?

This is the year! Go Blue!!

Listened this morning.  It seems to me that they are VERY excited about the potential of this offense.  They are effusive about the pieces that are in place (more so than usual leading up to the opening game).

Saturday can't come soon enough.

The show has become a lot more sophisticated since it started. But one thing hasn't changed, great enthusiasm with lots of positive messaging. This was a long and very informative podcast (90-plus minutes). Starts out with a terrific segment on special teams with Jack Harbaugh asking some great questions about punt and kickoff coverage and inside football stuff on the nature of executing field goals from snap to hold and what punt returners are taught to read in the flight of balls kicked downfield from the tip to the backside of rotation downfield in pursuit of a catch.

The show features outlooks from Michigan's special teams, defensive and offensive coordinators. For the most part, Jim takes a backseat to their commentary and pipes in with a few insights and player critiques. Very entertaining and informative.

Very intriguing insight on the special teams portion. I had no idea you watch the backside of the football while you're receiving a kick/punt. It's nice to know they practice for an scout the types of kickers they have to prepare for this year. And it's not like they wait for game week to look into it.

Also, 270lb BEN MASON meeting you at the 25 yard line on kickoff coverage is probably your worst nightmare!

Yeah - the whole idea of a long snapper practicing snaps so that you get the laces spun to the right spot when it hits the holder's hands so he doesn't have to spin the ball.....it makes sense but wow attention to detail.  And they know to the tenth of a second what a "good" span of time from the snap to the kick.  Impressive stuff.  It makes sense and I am sure that other teams do it too - but the idea that you may use 2 return men based on the punting style of the other team's punter - interesting.

That was a really excellent discussion of special teams.  Agree the attention to detail from Partridge, Harbaugh, and Jack Harbaugh (!) was outstanding.  Thanks for posting, will listen to the rest later
