For him to have to foresight and intelligence to identify Jim Hackett was nothing short of genius.

Also, don't underestimate the power of our alumni base that stressed to him how important athletics are to the fabric of our school.

It seems a little weird to "quote" Fielding Yost and then change his quote. He didn't say "Michigan men and women," he just said "Michigan men."

I understand trying to be inclusive but you're either quoting someone or you're not. At recitations of the Gettysburg Address, no one says "Four score and seven years ago our fathers and mothers brought forth. . ."

I actually liked the change. It shows that university recognizes that times are different and that the university has grown since the time of yost. The essence of what he said is there, but that little change ensures that we recognize the achievements of all our female athletes, students, alumni, and faculty. They are a part of this university as much as the men

I don't disagree with any of that. But if a UM student turned in a paper and quoted someone and removed gender-specific pronouns or did a similar "addition," and the professor noticed it, they'd flunk them.

Again, I agree with the spirit of everything you said, but from a simple academic principle standpoint, that's totally not kosher. And for a University to intentionally do it, I maintain, is "a little weird" (out of my lack of ability to come up with a more specific thing to call it). I'm not up-in-arms about it but I feel like if I was directing that video I would've either used Yost's quote as he said it, or if I found times were different enough that his sentiment didn't perfectly encapsulate what I was trying to say, I would've gotten someone to write something else.
