Grant Newsome vs Zach Miller injury

Submitted by lilwolve4 on

As some of you may have noticed (those who follow NFL more closely at least), Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller was carted off the field with a serious knee injury. This injury has later found to be a knee dislocation with a torn popliteal artery (artery behind the knee and main supplier of blood to the leg). I came across a very detailed page describing the injury, the timeline, and the prognosis.

Much of it so far seems to match up with Newsome's injury including the potential for limb loss, the number of surgeries/prolonged hospital stay, and the initial injury itself (knee dislocation).

For those wanting to read more on this injury, the link is above. They go on to discuss the prognosis of the injury later in the article. I will not delve into that currently as we should all be focused on supporting the young man and his recovery in relation to football activites or not.

Edit:

I also realize there is an OT topic on this a few posts down, but my post is more in relation to the comparison of the injuries and also posting this link for those further interested in the background behind the injury, the timeline, and the prognosis.

How similar was this to Bridgewater's? His must have been less severe but also believe he tore at least his acl and had a knee dislocation. If he also almost lost his leg I assume there would have been vascular concerns as well.

The ones these guys suffered are God awful.  I really hope both guys make it back to the field.  Can't imagine the pain and work to just get back on their feet.  Godspeed.

Reading these posts, I'm never completely sure why people are always pissed off in these threads. Simulates our society, angry and really offering very little to better the situation. The mass intellect deserves better.

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but why don't any players wear their kneepads in the proper location? When I played in high school they were massive and definitely useful. Anyone have any insight? Is it a mobility thing?
