Graham Glasgow Lions starting guard?

Submitted by reddogrjw on

Lions LG Laken Tomlinson is in danger of losing his starting job.

Struggling as much as any guard in the league, Tomlinson lost nearly half the snaps in Sunday's win over the Eagles to third-round rookie Graham Glasgow. Returning from a leg injury, Glasgow could officially seize starting status once his conditioning is up to snuff.

I'm thrilled for Graham.  He has an opening that he can exploit.  Tomlinson has been erratic.

As a Lions fan, however, I'm appalled that another 1st round pick might go bust.

I thought I was a lions fan.  I mean I grew up going to the games and watching on Sunday.  When I was in the service they were a kind of home normalcy for me.  However, for the last few seasons I've just been a hater.  I have no idea when it happened but it's all I can do now.  I feel like Wormtongue, convinced that all hope is lost and just spending whatever effort I have (which is very little) just spurning those who have faith in their fandom.  Sadly, before I could arrive at this pit of cynicism I somehow inoculated my son with some sort of lions affinity.  Sorry son.

Nice!  Didn't get to see the game coming home from Rutgers.  Good to hear something positive for him.  Now we need to get Jake on the regular roster.

Not a Lions fan so haven't really seen much of Tomlinson's play - but are his struggles new this year or is it something which started last season?

Good for Graham getting an opportunity though - hope to see good things from him.

PFF rates Tomlinson's run blocking as "poor" and defines him as the weak link so far this year.   Swanson was the definite weak link last year, with Tomlinson next.   Swanson seems to have improved drastically so far this year.

To my untrained eye, Tomlinson had some good moments last year, but struggled with consistency.   I was hoping the consistency issues would improve this year.  That hasn't happened to date, especially with run blocking.   Ergo, door is opened for Glasgow.

As a Huge Lions fan with an untrained eye - I think Tomlinson was weak sauce from the absolute get-go. Really a disappointing draft choice and an extremely underwhelming player, considering where he was selected and being from Duke.

I found myself watching him specific just so I could seethe with more anger (i.e. see this year's game against the Titans). One might point to the coaching for his lack of development, but I'd say he's just getting bested by just about everyone he goes up against. Pash rushers know him well - as the guy they can blow past. Waste of a pick, straight up.

We really hit the jackpot on the Glasgows (including Jordan). Unreal we get 2 NFL/NFL bound, multi year starts out of unheralded walk-ons and a third that's contributing a ton on special teams, all from the same family!

NBA teams only started being able to draft their basketball players like 3 years ago.  I don't know if it's technique or proper coaching that's the issue with him, but he's not ready yet.
