Both of them?
October 29th, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
....it will be a lonely night for them regardless. Still, hopefully it means that better times are ahead for Minnesota.

Post of the year.

Good for Minnesota as fun as GopherQuest was, you had to be rooting for that team
October 29th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Man, I was hoping to witness history. Good for the players though.

onsides kick with 8 minutes left was a great call. Coach Kill said if it didnt work they would have ran him out of town. Good for the Gopher and Coach Kill.

They're putting together a notable run of their own, 0-5 with 4 straight losses by 21 or more.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
By Brian's metric, it will only be the worst team in 6 years, as they have scored 31% of the points in their games.
October 29th, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
wooow on one hand, Iowa can't be very good. But, on the other, you gotta imagine that they're going to go all out against us next week.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
They will probably come out with a high energy level, but their confidence level has to be pretty low now. They might crack if we can jump on them early.
I think their bigger problem is that their defense just isn't very good this year after most of their best players the last few years moved on. They've faced a parade of bad offenses and are still giving up an average of 400 yards a game. We should beat them fairly easily if we don't self-destruct more than usual.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:06 PM ^
Let's see what Hoke will do to the Iowa Hawkeyes next week
October 29th, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
Coker is a battering ram. Our front 7 will need to drive through him and wrap up well next week. Also, I hope Countess is up to the task of covering McNutt next week.
October 29th, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
I think JT is the man for Mcnutt. I know he had a couple bad plays today I think he brings it next week.

The quest was solely tracking big ten games by teams in history, non conference games had no bearing.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:04 PM ^
Right, but that whole premise is ridiculous - a "worst big ten team ever" designation that only takes conference games into account doesn't really tell you anything . Would a team be the "worst big 10 team ever" if they lost all of their conference games by the largest average margain ever, but then also beat 3 ranked teams in non conference games? Of course not.
October 30th, 2011 at 3:26 AM ^
No, but the group of teams in the Big Ten that year would have been the best ever.
October 30th, 2011 at 3:12 PM ^
I say "yes" and if your scenario plays out, I'll eat my hat. It's all about the conference, for me.
October 29th, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
damn...Iowa is gonna come out next week with their backs agaisnt the wall after this game....we better be damn sure to bring the A+ game.

Cliche-o-rama!
October 30th, 2011 at 11:17 AM ^
We would not have folded after losing to State the past two years. I would be interested to see historical sucess of teams coming off a close loss or upset or both. Unfortunatly I have no idea where to go for that information.

Michigan should worry about: Some average-to-good Big Ten team will inexplicably lose to them.
Michigan can sleep soundly about: It’ll probably be Iowa.

October 29th, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
I felt really bad for them. It's never fun to see a team play as poorly as they were (unless it's our sworn enemies). Fun to see how happy and fired up those kids were

October 29th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
Let's just hope that's the same Iowa that shows up in a week.
October 29th, 2011 at 6:59 PM ^
Great news for Minnesota and Jerry Kill. It seems like maybe he is doing better healthwise, too. I'm not worried about Iowa's attitude or motivation, though. Michigan always gets almost every team on the schedule's best shot anyway.
October 29th, 2011 at 6:59 PM ^
Even if Minnesota lost today, 1981 Northwestern would still be the worst BIG TEN team of all time.
Now we get to play an extremely angry Iowa team on their turf.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
I have to agree with you. Those NW teams of that era were god awful
October 29th, 2011 at 7:09 PM ^
Yeah, and it's disappointing that Iowa is that bad because they're really our best hope for another Sparty loss, which we need in order to win the division.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
Sparty hasn't won at Iowa since 1989. Maybe the Hawks will pull off another win.

it's "Kill!"
October 29th, 2011 at 7:09 PM ^
good for the gophers, but this hurts my confidence in winning the division if sparty has to lose to Iowa for it to happen.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:13 PM ^
They could lose to Minnesota next week. Apparently, the Gophers are better than Iowa anyway.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:55 PM ^
I don't like our chances of winning the division. I just don't see MSU losing to anyone left on their schedule. However, if you think @Iowa is their only threat to lose, Northwestern usually puts up a good fight with MSU. Seeing as last year, Dantonio needed to resort to fake punts and trick plays to pull that one out.
I don't like our odds, but I still think MSU can pull a Sparty and cough one up to Northwestern or Iowa. However, I think the odds are probably higher that we lose one more.
October 29th, 2011 at 7:21 PM ^
Time for Sparty to roll over. They do it every year. A big win and then a loss to a patsy, Why not Mini?
Go Blue!
October 29th, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
I thought playing Iowa was going to be a pretty close game. Since Minnesota gashed Iowa's defense for 178 on the ground and 193 in the air...I am very much looking forward to this game. Coker (spelling?) looks good but their defense just looked awful.
