Going to Indiana game--Suggestions?

Submitted by sportsfreak0819 on

Me and a group of people are going to the Indiana game.

We are driving from Ann Arbor and planning on leaving Friday. Are there any suggestions of where to stay and what to do before and after the game?

We were planning on staying in Indianapolis (as most hotels seemed to be booked in Bloomington).

Any suggestions from people who have gone before or live in the area would be greatly appreciated.

EDITORIAL:

There is some fantastic advice on this thread, by people who actually know what they are talking about.  Top marks.

And I don't have a dog in the hunt here, I'm going to be watching the game on TV.  I just read the thread out of curiosity and because I like hearing about what goes on in college towns.

So for all of you self-appointed Hall Monitors that always say these kinds of threads are not legitimate, and to just Google it instead (because somehow 30,000 context-less hits that pick up on the keyword "Bloomington" are going to replicate the above info) . . . FUCK OFF!

This is exactly the kind of thing that is a sweet spot for a highly focused and specialized site like MGoBlog, with a very knowledgeable and well-traveled membership.

/End rant.

You will probably want to park in lot 10, unless you have access to season ticket pass. Virtually all of the parking spots in this section back up to a grass area, which allows you to put up a tent and grill. Map is here: http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/2015/4/1/GEN_2014010198.aspx

Unless you are under 25, avoid the grassy lots along 17th st. The students get pretty sloppy over there.

You can save a few bucks on parking if you buy a pass in advance at the box office.

If you need meat, goto the butcher's block at the corner of 3rd & State Road 46 (its close to the Best Buy).

If you are taking the wife or GF, the IU school of music is about as good as there is and they have a couple shows the night of the game. http://music.indiana.edu/events/

Went with my IU junior daughter to the Ohio State game; sat in section 110 with some very nervous Buckeye fans. We're both going to this game, and I would really like to know the start time since we're all going to Die Fledermaus on campus at 7:30. I'm.hoping for a noon start so there's time for a brew and dinner before I have to get all cultured, My wife is an IU alum, so I'm in the minority but that's okay.

Although I almost ended up at the Grissom wing after my unit BRACed. I was up at Selfridge, and the Guard had C-130s at that time. I decided to find another unit at Selfridge versus driving 5 hours each way every month to north central Indiana.

I've heard that tailgating down at Indiana is a pretty redneck truck style crowd. Not that there is necessarily anything wrong with that. I have never been there, but I recall reading that on a blog post on here before about Indiana tailgating.
