Glenn Robinson 360° dunk

Submitted by Ricky from Sunnyvale on

Pretty simple Glenn steals the ball and finishes strong last night. Seems he hasn't forgot how to do the 360 with ease.

Good for him.  Hopefully he'll catch one somewhere.  He's probably never going to be more than a role player in the NBA, but it would be nice to see him stick around for a couple of years.

Why? So you could benefit from watching him play for free?

This line of logic is so old and weak.

The truth is that, all things being equal, young players tend to develop better in the NBA than in college. They also get to their second contract quicker. So, if anything, GRIII should have gone after his freshman year.

At +/- half a million dollarsper year, a minimum NBA contract is ample. Realistically, this exceeds my max annual salary with a PhD. Hell, a player could pay cash for an Ivy League education after one year in the league (assuming he isn't cut). Even a 10-day contract with 1 year of experience would earn a player like $50,000. I would have taken a few years off of school if it was possible to make $50,000 in 2 weeks for doing something I love. Godspeed Glen Robinson III!

If he comes back he can be the big man on campus for a year, and get farther towards a degree of some sort. When a player receives a first round draft grade, nobody should be upset if he leaves. But GRIII passed up an opportunity for another year of college and development of his offensive skillet to go get picked in the second round. Second round picks are not guaranteed contracts, and he wasn't even borderline first round, he went 38th. If he comes back and improves his handle and midrange game, where he showed he had potential, he is easily a first round pick the year after.

GRIII went back to improve his stock and it fell. Another reason why you should strike while the iron is hot. Staying would've been pointless for GRIII. Just earn money sooner and get to 2nd contract quicker

The NBA highly values youth because they believe they can develop players better than college teams.

That is to say, a third year of school likely would have brought down GRIII's stock. Just like a second year did. There is opportunity cost in staying in school.

I know it's in your interest as a U-M fan to have players like GRIII stay, but try to take a more rational approach to the risks and benefits that players like him confront.

Might as well turn this into a GR3 appreciation thread.  I remember not being able to watch this game on TV.  Had to watch the gamecast on my phone.

Anyone have any idea of his chances of making the Atlanta 15-man roster? Would be cool to see him and THJ on the same squad.

GR3 is in the scramble for a roster spot mode.

fans love that type of dunk but the coaches/gm are looking for effort, defense, ability to play a role, etc.

i think he has enough size and talent to play in the nba but fancy dunks will not seperate himself from 500 other guys looking for the final 150 bench roles in the nba.
