Gerg's Halftime adjustments

Submitted by Maize and Blue… on
I have been impressed by the halftime adjustments Robinson has made. This is quite different from last year when it seemed no adjustments were made. The D basically shut down both ND and Eastern in the third quarter allowing the O to get rolling. I was surprised that Leach started and didn't get yanked as EMU was constantly running at him in the first half. I thought we would have seen more of Fitzgerald as I remember talk of him being the third best LB in camp but he wouldn't be starting because he couldn't beat out Ezeh or Mouton. I have to believe that unless there are injuries JT and Vlad will be getting redshirted with them not seeing the field yesterday.

This is one of the things I have been most impressed about with Gerg. He hasn't quite dominated out of the gate, but once he sees what you're doing, he can implement a plan to stop it or slow it down at the half. Given the youth and inexperience, I'd say Gerg is doing a pretty good job, so far.

In this game it seemed that his adjustment was to tell his team to play like they actually wanted to win. Overall though, I've been impressed as well.

The adjustments with ND in the second half worked well, and against a quality offense. Yesterday I saw us still give up 52 yards rushing in the second half, which is fine but not shutting down either, and this was against Eastern. We gave up no 2nd half points and that's commendable, but again, its Eastern. And the tackling regressed this week IMO. I think we got the defense we expected before the season, but not necessarily the defense we hoped for, so far.

I'm all in for GERG. I think the coach's schemes are making up for a lot of our success based on the available talent we have. I thought Leach played pretty decent considering the circumstances. Ezeh... I don't think I can say the same for, take that one play where he had a wide open path to the QB. He continued to show today that he has a long way to go in reading plays, which is an essential skill for playing his position. For the youngsters...they don't play yet just shows how much time it takes to learn the reads and have the skills to play those positions. Usually you don't have freshman playing on D unless they are a 5 star
