Gattis Quote

Submitted by UMich2016 on August 5th, 2021 at 9:07 AM

Gattis was interviewed recently during the Harbaugh Golf Classic.  This quote got me fired up for the season.

"In our building, don’t come near it with a lighter because there’s enough fuel coming out of that building that we don’t need anything to try and push us anymore further. Our guys are fired up. If people say, hey man, what do you need to fuel you? We need nothing. All of what last year went through, it fueled us to this point. We’re motivated. We’re inspired. At the same time, we’ve got the biggest chip on our shoulder because the feelings that our players felt and the feelings our staff felt, we gotta take that out on somebody. That’s why we can’t wait until training camp to get here so we can start building this team for 2021."

The other notable quote he said was Blake Corum was one of the Top 3 most talented players on the team.

The amount of JUST SHOW ME responses here is really odd. Folks, it is the first week of August. You're on a football message board searching for content and it's literally impossible for anyone to "show you" anything.

No. You can read about recruiting information, see if there’s any new commits, read about conference realignment.

The amount of “show me” comments is because Josh Gattis has been trying to hype his offense in press conferences for years and then comes out and falters. He could have said, “we’re focused and looking forward to camp”. Short sweet and to the point.

I guess OP didn't get the memo that MGOBLOG members aren't allowed to get fired up about the football team. All doom, all Gloom all the time please. - Please note sarcastic tone.

I also agree with the "don't talk about it, be about it" response to these articles we ready every single year in early August.

One thing he did talk about which I do think is worthy of consideration is related to just the amount of injuries the team endured last year on top of the opt-outs:

Paye, Hutchinson, McGrone, Ambry, Nico, Mayfield, Hayes... That's like 6-maybe-7 NFL caliber players that either missed significant time or did not play at all last season.. not to mention the revolving door at quarterback due to injuries. Pair that with one of the youngest rosters in America last season and you could see why that probably spells the recipe for a rough season.

Now, does that excuse getting your doors blown off at home against Wisconsin, losing to a winless Penn State team or to a fucking hapless MSU team at home? Absolutely not. But I think it's definitely realistic to think this team will be vastly more competitive than the squad we last year with all the opt outs and injuries.

They've got a healthy roster and a full, uninterrupted fall camp to get this thing rolling. Time to show everybody there's some bite behind that same old bark we hear every year.

I'll defend it.  I am about the farthest thing from an elite athlete that you could find but I watch and listen enough that I know the elite use disrespect (real or perceived) and prior failures as motivators.  Michael Jordan and Tom Brady STILL have a "fuck you for doubting me" mindset after being widely acclaimed as greatest of all time.  I don't care if it's hollow bullshit to us fans if it feeds the fire of the guys on the team.

If someone else already said this, sorry.  I stopped skimming comments after the first 40 or so and didn't see a whole lot of positive reaction.

Every time I think of Wilford Brimley I think of the episode of Family Guy that they parodied his commercials.

Hello my name is Wilford Brimley and I have diabeetus. It hurts me to pee and it causes me to be short with my family. I can't sleep at night. The other day I stubbed my toe and took it out on the dog. And two weeks ago, I ran out of vanilla ice cream and struck my wife. And then I found out my wife's been dead for six years. Who the hell did I hit?!

I guess we'll see the results on the field this season. I hope he is right and his offense will finally tear it up.  I better see his 2 minute offense not take 10 minutes.

Oh, the team is fired up for 2021 after getting the shit kicked out of them in 2020. What a shame the team didn't get fired up about getting the shit kicked out of them at the end of 2019 or 2018.

I'm sure things will be totally different this time. /s

It's all right in the quote. There has clearly been an off-season message sent about last year's results. They're using that message to motivate through the dog days of camp. Subtley telling them to show up with a chip on your shoulder ready to work your ass off because fall camp will be grueling. Coaching is just as much mental preparation as it is physical.

The question is, if Mike Hart figures out Haskins is the guy and needs to keep being fed, how long until Harbaugh steps in and insists on more rotation with the backs to give the opponent different looks and keep them off balance as to what his offense could possibly be doing in that formation with that personnel package?!?!? Opponents don’t read...their eyes closed? Good. THE PLAY WILL BE A RUN UP THE MIDDLE. followed by a huddle to sub the starters back in and talk about anything, as long as nobody acknowledges if Michigan should be going any faster, for 30 seconds before lining up again.

It's coach-speak, but at least it's good coach-speak. Sorely needed after the team's attitude last season. And it's light-years ahead of the scuttlebutt we heard coming out of spring ball.

That said, I want to see it on the field. If I do, I'll be on board.

I watched a recent interview on Wolverineswire and really liked how McDonald came across.  Talking is one thing and on field results are another, but he sounds like he knows what he's doing without being overtly cocky.  I like the vibe he gives off.  Maybe it's just a function of getting younger, but I really like some of our coaches...Hart, Moore, McDonald, Bellomy, & Clink all seem great and Jay has generally been quite good as well.  I haven't heard much from Helow & Weiss yet.  But, if Nua & Gattis can get things figured out I really like the vibe from this staff.  I think we will see an immediate payoff.  We aren't winning 11 games this year, but it may not be as bad as some think.  In the past so many times our play has lagged behind our recruiting rankings.  I think we are going to start to see that shift in our favor a bit.

There’s a part where Gattis says they need to commit to the run game more, even when it’s not going great.  Can’t wait for the armchair play callers to start bitching when a run play doesn’t work on third and two.

Since Sping I have created a spreadsheet and put down all the talk from the pundits of who is going to have a breakout season and other bold statements.  I decided to see if any of those comments from the experts are legit come November.  I am done with all the talk like many others on here.

Blah blah blah.  If you only listened to our coaches quotes about how good practices are, you would think we haven’t lost a game in years.  I’ll believe it when I see results on the field when the lights are on.

If our OC puts Corum in his top 3 does that mean Haskins is top 2? And I believe Edwards was already told he'll play game 1. Unless we speed up the offense there will not be enough snaps to go around for everyone. I hope one of these guys doesn't get the short end of the stick and leave like Charbonnet.

I remember last year when Gattis said this about the most improved and maybe best player on the team…

"Every day out there, he makes some type of 'wow' play," Gattis said. "Those 'wow' plays are not just 'wow' plays in college football, they’d be 'wow' plays on Sundays.”

what a douche. I'm sorry but Gattis has turned out to be an absolute dud in my eyes.  talks shit every year, pats himself on the back then vanishes when we do absolute shit all nothing.  This the same staff that put up the "what have you done to beat ohio today?" sign? or Red is not allowed in the facility ( of course only to have a recruit wearing red cleats the next day in the Big House...so Fucking  embarrassing at this point.
