GAMEDAY

Submitted by Laser Wolf on September 21st, 2019 at 6:09 AM

Home alone with the little ones this weekend and they’re too excited for kickoff. Both woke up at 5:00 EST.

What’s your plan today? Pregame ritual? Eating? Drinking? Tips to get an 8-month old and a 2-year old to sleep from exactly noon to 3 EST?

GO BLUE.

Children's Benedryl...

My plan is to head out early to do a duck exchange (because yes, the wife keeps chickens, ducks, and geese), then dart to Richmond to pick up her dollhouse, and get back home in time for the game.  To ensure I get back in time, I'm going to tell her I forgot to setup the DVR. But yeah, its already set up...

Football competition is the essence of life, so why does life get in the way of football?

EDIT:  Don't use the Benadryl - it has the opposite affect on young kids, like yours.  They'd be wired throughout the game!

My boys have a travel ball tournament this weekend and both play at the same time in different places.  At best, I will be listening to the game on the radio.  The phone service at the parks is not that great for some reason, so hopefully I will be able to get it.

The only thing that gives me hope today is that everyone and their brother easily likes Wisc today.  The masses are usually wrong.  Let's not be predictable and win this game.  Urban last night before the Utah/USC game said we should win because we have better players.  I agree.

I went to bed at 21-10 last night, so finished up the game thread this morning.  One thing I just thought about, with all the talk of USC just arm punting all night - like PSU's Deep State we want to emulate - is that Harbaugh might be too much of a football purist to use that strategy.

I love the guy, and think he's safe here for years.  But dear God, I need to see some arm punts today...

Easy!  Stuff the baby with extra milk/food around 11:30 and he/she will sleep for hours.  Set up a small tent for the toddler in the family room and fill it completely with stuffed animals and toys.  Bring him/her a cookie at the end of every quarter.  You're welcome!  Go Blue!

Hell yeah. It's about time.

Grabbing breakfast with a high school friend, in from out of town for a concert last night. He will be bailing home by 10am.

Then I'm heading over to another group of friends' place, where much drinking and debauchery will be had for the game and post game. Beer, BBQ, etc.

I love the fall.

Improved weather forecast for the game. As of yesterday at about 7PM, I thought this would be at best postponed for hours at worst suspended.  It still does not look great but it does not look dire like it did yesterday.

Go Blue.

Every game day I awake to the sound of “The Victors” via my game day alarm, at which point my heart rate increases significantly. Following breakfast, if I’m not making the trip to AA, I will go on a run to ease the nerves/anxiety. Then I wait with crippling anticipation. Why do I do this to myself?

Stay home, get drunk and yell at the TV.

first beer by 6am (check), nothing but Maize and blue on

Eating - bought a beef chuck roast to throw in the air fryer, then slice it up thin for sandwiches with au jus, also making those little round “bite size” potatoes, they get so damn crispy in the air fryer... air fryers are awesome if you don’t have one I highly recommend it.

Drinking - founders green zebra gose, Bells prairies grass gose for breakfast, rest of the day will be a combination of shorts sticky icky IPA, Great Lakes eddy fitz porter, roak live wire IPA, right brain (something) squirrel spiced brown, little sumpthin sumpthin hazy, I’m sure I’m missing a few... but yea fridge is full will have a lot more room in it by the end of the day

350 about 15-20mins per lb for rare.  I like to cook it “mooing” rare  as I like to call it, about 15 mins per lb, slice it thin, then drop it in a pan with hot au jus for about 10-15 seconds.  You won’t regret it.  If you want it cooked for thick slices and not finishing with an au jus, you’ll be closer to 20 mins per lb.

I don’t have a convection oven, maybe that’s the difference.  I don’t find clean up very hard.  We use it every night for veggies and whatnot if we’re not cooking the meat in there.  A simple wipe with a paper towel does the trick typically, as opposed to cleaning pots and pans every night.

fwiw, the latest on madison weather from noaa - kick off is 11:00 a.m. local time:

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11am and 3pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 74. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

as for the day:

barn chores, run with some of the kids, mountain bike ride, coach a football game (missing most of michigan v. wisconsin, which might not be the worst thing ever), swim with family in local lake, return home to watch some other CFB and to BBQ.

as for getting children to sleep, best practices are to plan activities and meals such that sleepy time comes when you would like it - keep them active and moving.  read to them at nap time.  not an exact science, but it worked pretty well.  besides, all of our kids bleed maize and blue so if/when they were awake during a game, well, let the education begin.

Son has cross country meet at 1pm so M game and MSU game recorded.  Will turn phone off at noon and won't wear any M gear to meet so unlikely to hear score.  Will listen to XM radio (Diplo's revolution) on way home.

Then I'll turn the TVs on and the fun begins

All of my old pre game rituals are out the door now. 4 kids =me usually having to tape the game and watch when I can.  My oldest son is in football now so I am at the field all day looking to go 4-0 today pending weather! Good luck with the 8 month and 2 year old

Good luck today. I am a Badger fan who likes to stop by and say hi to competition every week . You spanked us last year but the Badgers are much better this year. Will be interesting ? - for those of you going to the game, enjoy your visit to Madison.

Thank you!! I do think the Badgers will win being at home- but you’re right, that’s why the games are played. A lot of Badger fans are chalking this up as a W with their dominations the last 2 weeks and UM almost losing at home. I Keep telling my friends not to get too cocky as we’ve played virtually no one and I feel that nailbiter may have woken Michigan up a little bit.

If anyone is in Madison right now and has any questions or recommendations just ask away! I went to UW and currently live in Milwaukee.

In Madison for the game with my family (wife is a UW alum, daughter is a UW junior) as well as various nieces, nephews and friends.  Pre-game at 7:30am, followed by tailgating, then off to Camp Randall with a rain parka in my back pocket.

Not feeling particularly optimistic based on our recent level of play and Harbaugh’s record against ranked teams/away games, but am hopeful the team and Gattis knocked the rust off during the bye week.  Also hoping Doc Brown has something up his sleeve, bc all I’ve heard from UW fans since I arrived in Madison is how Taylor is going to defile us.

GO BLUE... LET’S DO THIS!

Watching college football back in Atlantic Canada for the first time in 8 years. No one gives a shit. about college football her and they all think I'm crazy for my obsession.   Time to house some mediocre Canuck craft beer until I'm accepted in my head.  Go blue.

I will have 8 month old twins, plus a 7 and 9 year old all to myself (wife is between overnights).

Set up the high chairs in the living room, the play rug in front of the TV bordered by a wall of pillows. Plenty of diapers and other supplies within reach. Basically hunker down like you're doomsday prepping.

I live in Columbus OH we have our Michigan flag out, about to turn on the tv outside and get a fire going in the fire pit and the beer will be cracked open by 10am.

Go Blue!

As a side note I don’t think I’ve seen a top 10-ish Michigan team get shit on this much before a game (I’m not saying they don’t deserve it) but damn. They sure won’t be going into this one with big heads.
