He's completely right; hard lesson to learn that this was rigged from the get-go.  Rule is SEC Champ (and maybe another SEC team) to start, and then best 2-3 of the remaining schools.  By the logic of the committee, you could start the year without your top QB, lose your first three games, and then go on a run, and present yourself at the end of the season as a team no one wants to play.  Stupid.

There is no argument for Bama that doesn't also break all the basic guidelines people understood to remain be true with CFB.

A P5 program with historical prestige went undefeated and tossed aside for two 1-loss teams, also Conference Champions. By trading the gimme that was a UM, UW, UT/FSU grouping, they totally invalidated one of those undefeated conference champs for an arbitrary reason beyond any team's control.

Worse is when you know it would never happen if the roles were reversed. Rather, they would use it as further proof of Bama dominance that they kept winning without their starting QB.

They ripped the mask off to reveal that they were exactly what they swore they were not this entire time.

I'd love to give the Committee the benefit of the doubt here, and believe this is about Alabama being the better team at this moment.  But I think we all know how prone the NCAA is to put self-interest before integrity.  So it's really hard for me to not believe this is about ratings and eyeballs on a Michigan-Alabama matchup versus a Michigan-FSU one.  If so, it makes a mockery of what everyone is playing for.

You are correct. The TV execs run the sport. Not the ADs. The moment that ESPN encouraged the SEC to add Texas and Oklahoma in order to get the best media rights deal possible, the management of the sport shifted from the NCAA, the conferences, and the athletic directors, to the media execs.

This sucks. It really does. BUT, I really can't say that FSU is one of the best four teams in the country right now. If that's truly the goal, well...the Committee (/ducks) more or less got it right.

Following the injury to Travis the CFP Committee dropped FSU one spot.  The very next week they elevated FSU back to #4.  I'm confused, so at what point did the committee deem Washington, Texas, and Alabama better than FSU with its broken QB?  Just this week?  Were they merely going through the motions in earlier weeks?

Bah, I blame the Fiesta Bowl.  Thirty years ago the Fiesta Bowl committee thought it best to make the traditional bowl alignments irrelevant by courting the two highest ranked teams to play in their desert bowl.  Ever since then, with the backing of ESPN et al, the conferences and bowl traditions have been victimized to make a buck.

The FBS CFP system has been a joke since the beginning. Even D3 has a 32-team (yes, 32) team single-elimination playoff. So dumb, and next year look for the same from these CFP clowns. There will be deserving teams in the mix that don't get chosen for the 12-team playoff just because they are not in the SEC. Jeebus Heist!

Florida State looked pretty awful last night against probably the worst team participating in a conference championship game.

I read someone on this thread try to make the argument that they "beat the #16 team by two scores", and I had enough.

Did anyone watch that game? Did anyone see a team who could hang with any of the top 6 or 7 teams (including Oregon) who went into the weekend as a threat to be in the playoff?  If so, I'll have you reach out to the Vegas sharpies who do this 18 hours a day, 7 days a week and set the odds professionally at the sports books.

Because none of them were buying Florida State as a threat to beat any of those teams.

Florida State DID have a chance to show what their quarterback is lamenting they DIDN'T. And last night's slop offense and near upset to a team that lost to Pitt is what they gave us.

I do feel bad for them to a point but it's message board excess saying they didn't have opportunities to change their fate over weekend. They absolutely did. And they proved they weren't viable to win it all.

Texas is actually who screwed FSU albeit indirectly. There was not a chance that the SEC would be let out. They couldn’t however screw Texas because of who they are and that they beat Alabama.

There is no reason Texas should have jumped from #7 to #3 after beating Oklahoma St. Okie St and Louisville had basically identical resumes. You can’t say based of what happened yesterday that Texas showed to be that impressive and FSU that unimpressive for the leap frog.

They had to have Texas jump FSU to allow for Alabama to make it.

I was surrounded by Alabama fans, including an Alabama mega-donor during the selection show, so it is uncouth to display anything other than enthusiasm that Alabama got in. But truthfully, FSU got hosed and I feel terrible for that team. They did everything asked of them. They beat everyone, including beating down LSU by a larger margin of victory than Alabama did, and at a neutral site where Alabama was at home.

Everyone should be pulling for FSU to beat Georgia. But we all know why that is the matchup - to have Georgia beat down a QB-less FSU, to "prove" that the committee got it right.

FSU got royally screwed. The NCAA has proven it has no honor or integrity.

Imagine if an undefeated Michigan was left out in favor of two 1 loss teams.
