Friday Posbang - The Universe Shall Get Back in Order

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Time to put the universe back in order.   After a few years wandering in the desert, it is time to have normalcy restored, good triumph over evil, and stuff like that.

Paint the town maize and blue, and for all the faithful that will be in EL tomorrow, Go Blue!

I haven't been as productive as I could be this week. My thirst for Michigan vs. MSU articles and hype videos has been insatiable. Now, only one day away! Bang bang bang on the door baby! I CANT HEAR YOU!

People are saying MSU will be ready and motivated for an upset. Don't you think they were motivated not to lose 3 in a row, or 4, or 5 ? If I'm motivated to drive somewhere and I have no gas in the tank I'm not going anywhere. I think their tank is empty. Spartans have no will this season.

I don't know that I have been this hyped to play Michigan State in a long time now, and I would imagine many of my fellow Wolverines are in the same boat. Like some other folks, I've never been one to put this particular game above Ohio State in the pecking order of rivalries, but I am rather excited to hopefully see us "rebalance", if you will, this particular rivalry and return it to something closer to what it had been, which is our tune-up game for the last third of the season.

Rivalry Day at work today - curious to see how many Spartans show up in green.

MSU fans gonna claim it's because their team sucks. Well, that just means they are going back to normal. They will also say we will be celebrating like we won a title. Well...yeah, we will be. They did the same thing in 2008 against a 3-9 team.

MSU fans gonna claim it's because their team sucks.

This is the logical quandary they're in -- to say it's because they're not good this year implies a follow-up question: "Is this a temporary dip, or a 'new normal?'"

If the answer is "temporary dip," then there must be some evidence that a pipeline of talent exists.  "Rebuilding" years happen; but it's only a "rebuilding" year if there's material on deck to do the building.  It may be there ... but I doubt it.

They will never answer "this is the 'new normal'" because ... well, that's their worst nightmare.  Their nightmare is, I think, reality -- with Meyer in Columbus and Harbaugh in Ann Arbor, they are going to have a very tough time getting regional talent.  They don't have much of a national presence.

They have had a heck of a ride the last five or six years.  For a time they had things working in their favor: Tressel at OSU allowing Dantonio to take some Ohio talent, and a coaching mess at Michigan, which gave them freedom in the state of Michigan.  But things change.  For MSU, change means a return to what they have historically been: an okay but not great football team.

Here at work. They are expecting a beating like no other. The air in this town is completely gone. Bring yourselves up to EL and take over this town tomorrow!
