Friday Night OT: Funniest Movies of the Last 15 Years
It's a Friday night and it's pretty quiet in mgoworld so I wanted to pose a question to the board: what are the funniest movies of the past 15 years? I have a theory that there hasn't been a truly great, classic comedy movie to come out in a loooong time. I believe this is likely because studios have gone away from comedies to emphasize big budget comic book movies that generate big box office returns. But it has certainly been a golden age of comedy TV.
My theory is that the vast majority of comedy classics were made in an era stretching from the late 70s to the early 2000s. BUT, that doesn't mean there haven't been great comedies to come out since then. And I'm always on the lookout for new ones. So what are your nominations for the best modern comedy classics (since 2007 -08)?
My favorites:
Step Brothers, Pineapple Express, MacGruber, Tropic Thunder, Bridesmaids, What We Do In the Shadows, They Came Together, Black Dynamite, Wanderlust, Sisters, Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping.
Honorable Mention: You Don't Mess With the Zohan, The Heat, Hunt for the Wilderpeople,The Dictator.

- Game Night (2018)

The Other Guys is one of the most underrated and underappreciated comedies of my life.
The first time I saw it, I didn't find it all that great. Ever since then, I think I have to rank it in the top 3 of my favorites.

Gotta go way back.
Death at Funeral (2010 version)
Paul (2011)
Hot Fuzz (2007)
Love Simon Pegg. Sorry that Hot Fuzz misses the window, but watching it without any idea of what I was about to see was mind blowing.

Gor LAH mi.
I have such mixed feelings about this movie. I really enjoyed it but feel it could have been so much better--an all-time great--but for a couple baffling choices from Tarantino. *Sigh*

Although I thought it was cathartic (and sometimes catharsis of that kind can make you laugh, like the last scene in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" when he torches the Manson clan), I didn't really see it as a comedy.

You lose for not including Game Night. Fresh content, funny as hell.

Not reading this entire thread. Hot Fuzz is just outside the 15 year window, it was 15 years and change, but it is a perfect comedy. Literally every line is either setting up or delivering a punch line, sometimes calling back to an offhand comment from an hour or more earlier in the movie. It rewards rewatching as a result, and is absolutely outstanding.

I'd like to add "This Is Where I Leave You," It's more situationally funny and the cast is really good: Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, and Dax Shepard.

What We Do in the Shadows is the greatest movie of all time.
I believe comedy is very hard to do, that is one reason you don't see many great comedy movies. The Weird Al movie was really good for the first half, but then fizzled.
Under the radar good ones are The Death of Stalin, and Identity Thief.

Jexi - last couple yrs. Must see.
Brothers Grimsby - is some under the radar movie that I tell all my buds they have to watch because I cried at least 3x watching. Seems like no ones ever heard of it. Sacha Baron Cohen whos movies are all funny as fuck.
That's My Boy - Sandler movies to me are great, meh, or WTF was that. This one is hilarious to me. I've know alot of Boston peeps over the years and his accent is a crack up. Plus the fact he has a beer in his hand the whole movie.
The Other Guys - Cause I just watched again the other day. Best scene for me is Eva Mendez (of course) and Wahlberg keeps asking "no seriously who is that?"

In my opinion the funniest movie ever made was 1963s, “It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” and it was even better on a 70mm screen format. Probably way before most of you.

I have not even heard of some of the movies you have on your top list. I agree with your theory on comedy classics but all movies in general for that matter. There has not been a fantastic comedy since step brothers or a classic IMO. There has not been a fantastic amazing movie in general since the 2000s. Most of what is out there right now is terrible.

Zohan and The Dictator suck.
Cringe.
