Any beer with a high alcohol content.
September 10th, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
One word. Strongbow. It's not a beer though (it's a dry cider), but tis the season and it's virtually hangover free!
September 14th, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
to keep it Michigan-made... if possible
September 10th, 2010 at 5:05 PM ^
Short's Noble Chaos that I have been sitting on for a few weeks. Grab one if you are in Northern Michigan. Only comes in 6
September 10th, 2010 at 5:07 PM ^
Not sure I'd drink 6 (or 12) pumpkin ales, but 2-3 before switching to something less hangover inducing might not be a bad way to switch things up. There is a good one called "Post Road" here in NY. Nore sure where you are at or how widely distributed that is.
Lots of places have decent Oktoberfests. Beck's ain't bad and it pretty widely distributed.
Cheers.

Going classy down here in Mordor... I recommend a 6 pack of Busch Light tall boys (or gold tops if you prefer).
EDIT: You said something NEW. Well, if you have never had Busch anything, God bless you. Looking for something new? Genny tall boys.... 6 pack starts at $3.99. Mmmmmmm... /sarcasm
September 10th, 2010 at 5:12 PM ^
Sold individually, very high alcohol content, and amazing.

Why does the arrival of dusk signal that he should start drinking Strohs?
Edit: From the following comments, I see that the joke was there but it went over my head. I had no idea that Bear had some connection with Coors. I will say that I can actually stomach ice cold Coors Light. Strohs? Not so much.
September 14th, 2010 at 8:39 PM ^
if Stroh's was still brewed in Detroit
September 10th, 2010 at 6:10 PM ^
is a spokesman for Coors Light?
I did not know that!
September 10th, 2010 at 6:40 PM ^
I was thinking more along the lines of Miller Lite but that's moose piss.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:42 PM ^
I like Coors Light--but that did not stop me from laughing.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:13 PM ^
Schlitz
September 10th, 2010 at 5:14 PM ^
I've got a 4.5 hour drive to the parents for the padre's 50th. It'll be a pair of 6-packs of Shiner's 101 Anniversary Czech Pilsner. Rivals Urquell for best pilsner I've ever had. Always hard to beat the original.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:49 PM ^
I agree

Ended up at a bar with a female best friend of mine, the type that I wouldn't try to get with. Unfortunately, she ordered pitchers of Bud Light (another reason I wouldn't try to get with). Not totally ruined, but blah.

Gotta be honest a twelve pack of the HIGH LIFE after a tough week of crime fightin.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:25 PM ^
I don't know what it is about High Life, I love it but for the love of Denard don't light a match around me the next day.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
Alternatively, listen to Lando (he can be trusted...)
September 10th, 2010 at 5:21 PM ^
Founder's Red's Rye IPA.
If you like hoppy beer, this is one of the top choices available in Michigan (brewed in Grand Rapids). However, if you consider, for example, the seasonal offerings from Sam Adams to be exotic, then this might too much for your palate.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:19 PM ^
Dangit, Founders on the west coast? Nope. Bell's? Nope. Don't get me wrong, Stone & Rogue make some really great beers. Guess I will have to drown my nostalgia for 2 hearted in a few 22s of Ruination IPA.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:35 PM ^
It's no stouts or bells, but I enjoy it. Lucky 13 is very good limited release out right now. Censored is great as well.
September 11th, 2010 at 6:54 AM ^
Red's Rye was my choice last night. I'm in Gand Rapids (my girl lives here) but it's available at many good party stores around the state.
Joke or not, Stroh's and Schlitz are better than the other commercial beers mentioned on this thread, IMO.

Going with Magic Hat #9 here tonight
September 10th, 2010 at 5:45 PM ^
#9 is one of my top 10 all timers
September 10th, 2010 at 5:47 PM ^
magic hat is garbage. Bell's two-hearted ALL NIGHT
September 10th, 2010 at 8:28 PM ^
Just trying my first one... stay tuned for edit update...
EDIT 1: First one - very nice. Pretty complex and fruity, which is different. Toffee flavor lingers and smoke. Interesting. Starting number two...
EDIT 2: Second one went down quite well. Much more smoky than I originally thought, but not a smoke beer in the German tradition. On to number three...
EDIT 3: Tasting much better! gotta pee and get some pretzels. Number four is coming right up!
EDIT 4: Yes... so much better than I thought. The pretzels bring out the toffee. Number 5 is looking worried...
(Note: watching Michigan Football Miracles on You Tube - thanks MicHFAnGoBluE122568 - M vs PSU 2005, Super Mario!)
EDIT 5: It should have been worried! Slid down like a MILF's panties. Whoa - getting a little carried away here... On to six.
EDIT6: ReALY got to pee no.
(LoL)
Got to get back to work! Enjoy the rest of the evening gents! And Go Blue.
EDIT 7: Ok - I give up. Got a four of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. Very malty with a finish like pumpkin pie - but bold. Nice and fun.
EDIT 8: Yeah I like this but, being the eighth beer - gotta pee again.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:25 PM ^
Get anything from Bells if you are in Michigan. You pretty much can't go wrong.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:28 PM ^
I back this wholeheartedly. I live in the Bay Area now and it pains me whenever Oberon season starts up again ... haven't found a single store or bar out here that carries Bells. Anyone have any leads?
September 10th, 2010 at 5:31 PM ^
According to this the closest you're gonna get is AZ. I feel your pain though, I'm in Austin and can't get it here either :(
September 10th, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
but you don't need Bells when you have Shorts.
September 10th, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
...Never tried it before. Going on your recommendation. Most in the fridge for tomorrow, with a couple in the freezer for tonight!
*Edit* - Got the case at Sam's Club.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:26 PM ^
and a pint glass. It masquerades as a beer, but is also a meal.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:06 PM ^
Yeah - it is a meal.
Ever try DogFish Head 120 Minute IPA? different beer - for sure, but a full meal.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:12 PM ^
that is until you stand up after finishing that four pack....
September 10th, 2010 at 6:45 PM ^
you can finish it!
Love their 120. Hope to meet the master brewer at the Great American Beer Festival next weekend.
September 10th, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
met them at a few brewfests, very nice guys...and you're right, I dont always finish all 4
September 10th, 2010 at 5:28 PM ^
Nothing Irish and preferably something English.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:29 PM ^
It's comments like these that caused the ruckus in Northern Ireland.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:30 PM ^
That's what I'm going for, considering the opponent this weekend....
September 10th, 2010 at 5:59 PM ^
English - nice brown Old Style Ale. Very rich and malty with toffee and caramel notes. Smooth, medium body - with tan creamy head. Low alcohol level - unfortunately.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:29 PM ^
homebrew for me.
September 14th, 2010 at 8:42 PM ^
Bo bless you
September 10th, 2010 at 5:41 PM ^
In Michigan? Bells 25th Anniversary if you have a good shop which may have it. I rocked a 3 Floyds Apolocolypse Cow last night...$$.
September 10th, 2010 at 5:42 PM ^
Fall seasonal time
September 10th, 2010 at 6:04 PM ^
Dogfishhead, Fort homebrew clone....it appears more cherry is needed next time, but how can you complain with nice quad....
September 10th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
I really need to hit that brew tour. It's only an hour or so away from me.
Trouble is, there are more things that distract me when I'm in Sonoma County... including Russian River Brewing...
