Francesa and Desmond loving up Hoke
Here in NY on WFAN and Yes Network, Mike Francesa had Desmond Howard on, and boy were they loving up Coach Hoke... Francesa said he is the perfect coach for M, and will be here for 20 years. It'll be on TV tonight on the YES Network and is worth listening to.

Desmond has made it very clear from day one how he felt about Hoke. This is no big surprise. Who the hell is this Mike Francesa guy though and what relevance does he have other than being a radio/tv host (i'm assuming thats who he is)?

Mike Francesa is the radio man for WFAN, and for the most part, is the most respected voice in the Northeast. He is so popular that they actually videotape the 3 hours of his radio show, and then show it later on TV in the evening.

Fair enough. I just never heard of him and didn't know what his connection with Michigan was/is.

Francesa is popular, but I (and most people I talk to) regularly disagree with him. He's become a blowhard with all the "Miked Up" and YES shows he's got going. I never liked Chris Russo much either - way too much time talking about the Giants (SF...)
Though, any positive press for Michigan is something we need now so I'll take it.

But what makes him qualified to comment on UofM Football?
February 3rd, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
I mean, what makes you qualified to comment on it? He's talking about Michigan from a national perspective, and his opinion carries weight in NY and in the northeast. He doesn't have any special insight here, but national guys are going to talk about Vick, and Duke, and 1000 other things they don't follow obsessively. It's how the world works.
This message brought to you by reality.

Francesa is the biggest guy in NY sports talk radio by some margin. He does an NFL show that's nationally syndicated before the games every Sunday. As local guys (and radio guys) go, he's the one that matters. He's incredibly arrogant and a blowhard, but he doesn't say shit just to stir things up and has a huge knowledge base.

He also pretty much invented Sports Talk Radio, along with the Maddog. That being said, he knows nothing about college football. His opinion on the subject is worthless. I can guaranty he said the exact same thing about Charlie Weis. He loved the guy. I guess fat white guys stick together.
And "he doesn't say shit just to stir things up" does not apply to anything regarding the Mets.

if you watched gameday with Herbstreit and Desmond before the bowl game, Desmond laughed at the Herbstreit's suggestion of Brady Hoke as Michigan's next coach.
Desmond was and is the perfect example of a person who talked a lot and people listened to a little too much.

Haha, sorry, I don't have enough points to post this as its own thread. But, I read this story on Mickey Mantle last night, and had to share it with the board. So, enjoy, trust me, it's worth the read.

...but Hoke's extreme passion for the job and reverence for the university's tradition is both gratifying and infectious. I think it will translate to wins pretty quickly. Watch out B10. Michigan just may be back to dominant form in 2011.

We're not going 12-0 in 2011, so let's wait and see what Desmond and Francesca say after the first disappointing UM loss.
