Football visitors this weekend

Things have been pretty quiet on the recruiting front lately for Michigan, which is abnormal considering National Signing Day went by recently without a peep. Michigan held steady other than grabbing a bunch of preferred walk-ons.

But this weekend things really get rolling again with several 2020 and 2021 prospects visiting Ann Arbor, including 5-star Justin Rogers from Oak Park. Michigan whiffed on making it into Rogers's top 13, but there's still a chance. I know that sounds like bluster, but if you're visiting a school that's not in your "top 13"...then it's probably in your top 13 now.

Here's the list (LINK).

How the hell does Michigan not make it into a guy's top...13, apparently... when said kid is a 5 star from Michigan? Did they not contact up until recently?

I wonder how much of this is the school not wanting to recruit the kid as hard, he has been saying things that can be seen as off-putting to some coaches. Things seem to go back and forth with him after each visit, he has said he wants to be a freshmen starter and it seems like some schools are selling that more than others. Maybe its just a little bit of multiple things that have yet to get michigan back into his “top” group

That was more of a result of Drevnos poor recruiting. Rogers put the top 13 in June last year. Since then, Warriner has been putting in work to recruit him and he’s been on campus several times. Though it seems like he wants to go south. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up at Georgia or Bama

If it's an official visit I would agree. Otherwise, going from Oak Park to Ann Arbor doesn't require a lot of effort or planning. Casual interest and curiosity about how the program may have changed under Warner would be enough to justify the time he'll spend.

Would love to see Bryce Austin make it back on campus. We need to really impress some Dlineman this cycle. He's a local kid who grew up a big UM fan. His film looks really good.

Magnus - thanks for the updates.  Do you have any early feeling on the two Clarkston 2021 5 stars: Rocco Spindler and Garrett Dellinger?  Both are currently top 10 national recruits in their class for what that is worth 2 years out.

I know it is early for 2021 and the rankings will change but it seems unusual how quiet their recruitments have started.

Garrett Dellinger isn't a Michigan native, so he doesn't really have a great affinity for Michigan. What I've heard suggests Notre Dame.

Spindler is a bigger possibility for Michigan. I wouldn't go as far as saying Michigan leads, but he's spent more time in the area. His dad is from Pennsylvania, so you wonder if he might be intrigued by playing for Pitt.

Neither player is extremely talkative in the recruiting arena.

We signed the top 3 MI kids in 2018 and top 6 MI kids in 2017. We missed on Brown and Dixon last year, but landed Barnhart and Mazi, who we feel were underrated, and we also thought Dobbs and Barnett were overrated/not great fits.

For 2020 Braeden McGregor and Rashawn Williams are probably our two top targets in the state, and the staff loves Seldon and Martinez too.

Harbaugh's staff doesn't have an issue not recruiting MI kids they don't think are good cultural fits or they think are overrated. He's never going to recruit a kid just because he's from Michigan - he doesn't care about that. They evaluate talent on their own, independent of recruiting sites, and they evaluate families and personalities as well. They land most every MI kid that fits their criteria.

Let’s see the only skill players left from Harbaughs 2016 class are Sean McKeon, Nick Eubanks and Brandon Peters. His 2017 RB recruits both gone. Harbaugh hasn’t started a QB he recruited five years into his tenure and his two starting tackles in Year 4 were lowly Hoke recruits.

Yeah that Harbaugh sure can spot talent.

Seems like Rogers has been on campus once a month for a while now. He clearly is a kid who likes "the process" and likes being courted. I get a bit of a Cassius Winston vibe there.

WR recruiting for 2020 will be interesting. Seems like we're in on a ton of top 250 WRs and the Gattis hire really helped the legitimacy of our chances with a bunch of them (Fleming and Henning for sure).

OT: Go pick the WTKA podcast with Zach Charbonnet's dad...if you have not heard-from the Harbaugh podcast. Good/interesting stuff...a lot to like all the way around...including about how the 8 early enrollees are doing.
