FO notes how rare Harbaugh's SF turnaround was

While discussing the Rams' remarkable turnaround (laughingstock to arguably the best team in the NFL!) they point out some of the great coaching turnarounds (and collapses) with a weighted win-loss comparison. While we knew it at the time, I hadn't realized how great the turnaround was historically. The upgrade from Singletary to Harbaugh is the greatest in absolute terms, possibly only eclipsed by the Jets transition from Rich Kotite to some guy named Bill Parcells.
And as we generally observed with considerable schadenfreud, the transition from Harbaugh to Tomsula to Chip Kelly was pretty much the opposite (8-8 to 5-10 to 2-14).
The article is worth perusing to see just how often and how hard the Yorks have borked the 49ers.

Two different leagues, understood but oranges in both cases. He did beat the "Alabama of that era" twice, once in the greatest upset in cfb history and the second time putting up half a hundred on them. Now that was impressive.

I don't mind Caldwell all that much. He's not someone that really moves the needle for me but he's been winning enough to keep him for now. It has been nice to have some consistency in the head coaching position. Assuming the rest of the year goes as it should (easy schedule except for the vikings), the Lions should be a 10/11 win team with a solid shot at the playoffs. I don't see them letting go Caldwell with that

The problem with the "Young Coach Model" is that for every McVay, there is a Kiffin, McDaniels, Morris, Mangini, etc. And does anybody even know who the Morris is that I am referrimg to? While I don't have an issue with getting a young coach and probably prefer it over hiring a re-tread, ultimately its about being a good coach. Simply being young doesn't guarantee that you're good.

take the team that went 0-16 to the playoff in 3 short years. He deserves a 2nd chance to be the head coach. He might be a perfect fit for the Browns considering he knows how to turn around the franchise.
