Florida RB Jordan Scarlett: "Michigan's DL doesn't move well sideline to sideline."

Submitted by Maizen on

Florida has been running their mouth an awful lot leading up to this game.

Dumb question:

How closely does our coaching & analyst staff monitor statements like this from opposing teams? Not for silly "locker room" quotes--I assume our own players find that. But if this kid is really "tipping his hand" as to fame prep & what Florida might do.

Does our staff notice this kind of stuff & adjust accordingly? Or is this such minor chatter that it never gets heard by them or it gets dismissed as just chatter?

and their linebackers don't cover wideouts well, the placekickers struggle to pass-block, the QBs don't intercept any passes, the running backs haven't recorded any sacks, and no tight ends on the roster have ever successfully kicked a field goal.

Seems like he accidentally exposed at least a part of their strategy for the game.

3 days for Harbaugh & co. to incorporate into preparations... wonder how pissed McElwain is about it, since Scarlett wouldn't have said this unless it was being drilled into his head by coaches this week.

I envision Rashan Gary channeling his inner Julius from Remember the Titans as he's staring down on Jordan who is flat on his back multiple times in the game:

"You'd better make yourself comfortable down there. Real comfortable."

This guy had been on the 1969 Commodores team that was Bo's first opponent at UM.  He recalled that Michigan's players "seemed really angry" and that he spent much of the game looking at the sky after being knocked flat.

Michigan won 42-14 after being up only 14-7 after three quarters.

I actually feel sorry for this knucklehead.  No I don't.  He's toast along with the rest of the gators.  Victory will feel so good after all their talking.

He's just blathering the old "Big 10 teams are slow" thing they've been repeating down there forever.  Has he forgotten the Citrus Bowl already?

What i do not get is the 'unconfirmed' fact that this is our fastest/quickest DE set we have probably ever head.

Winovich is probably a bit quicker and almost as fast as Gary.  Sideline to sideline Gary may win, but midfield to sideline i bet Winovich has him.

These are the 2 quickest/fastest DE starters i recall Michigan ever having.

proves the point by running sideline to sideline. Just keep going East to West the whole game since the DL can't catch him. I think Devin, Khaleke and Mike will eventually find him ...

Or eleven-dimensional chess. Scarlett is trying to sucker our DL into overpursuing so their backs can cut back for big yardage.

Full quote from Gary: "What impresses me? Watching other people's film doesn't really impress me. Going into the game, we want to win. Nothing impresses me. I'm just looking for what they like to run, their favorite plays and stuff like that and try to stop it." He was discussing his mentality in watching film, not making any statements about whether Florida's offense is "impressive" or not. If you or he can't distinguish that from a direct statement saying that Michigan's defensive line does something poorly, then you should work on that.

For a guy that doesn't seem like he'll be playing...

Head Coach Jim McElwain has announced that Jordan Scarlett and Rick Wells are suspended from all team activities.
