Film Breakdown of Iowa D Changing Blitzers Pre-Snap

As a supplement to the excellent content we get here at MGoBlog, Sam Webb and Al Borges do a good job analyzing our offensive development over at the Insider.

Here in the B1G Championship Game, Iowa shows blitz on one side of the defense, our O line communicates and adjusts to pick it up, only to have Iowa change blitzers at the last second to the other side of the defense resulting in a sack.

It's a nice example of the level of sophistication of the Iowa D.  It makes you appreciate our offensive game plan and execution even more to have scored 42 points on them.https://youtu.be/4p-Yx9QB4sc?t=2013

Great content.   It increases my appreciation of the game as a fan to learn about the all of the nuanced "games within a game" being played.   It's why football is so damned interesting.

This almost seems like a requirement for modern defenses with the offense looking to the sideline and changing plays based on the initial look.  I'm not sure how sophisticated this really is.

Maybe you're right.  I thought this was a good example of the scouting report on what makes the Iowa defense so successful and the key to their success as a 10-3 team.  They are experienced with a good, sound scheme with some wrinkles and craftiness that helps them stop drives and get turnovers.

That said, with the end zone view and Borges analysis you get to see a lot more than watching it in real time from the side with the network feed.  It's harder to see the linebackers signaling and the O line responding.
