ESPN: Martinez and Robinson look for separation
offers some interesting comparisons and similarities between Denard and Taylor.

UM fans love Denard, NU loves Taylor, two exciting players.
If their season goes as planned without any hitches, I think our November game will get incredible hype nationwide beyond the team matchup.
I am looking forward to seeing these 2 perform on the same field more than any other game on our schedule.

FYI it is Denard. Just one 'n'.
Thanks for sharing this, btw. Martinez was interesting to me to watch early last season.

especially important in any post relating to nebraska, since dennard is one of their top players on defense.

when it comes to espn, i just ignore em like

Denard is clearly better. He plays for a better team, is faster, and has a nicer smile.

guys are new to our conciousness and all, it will take some time for us to get familiar with the various ways in which you refer to yourselves. I notice that Nebraska was referenced in your post at NU...is this standard? I was under the impression that it was University of Nebraska.
If NU is standard, I will have to ask on behalf of the entire B1G (god I hate that logo!!!) that you kindly ignore your heritage and shed your traditions, since we already have an NU. Alternatively, you could have your AD explore the posibility of creating a rivalry game with the real NU, with the victor obtaining the rights to use that moniker until defeated on the gridiron.

this issue has been heavily discussed on ESPN's big ten blog
i think they arrived at the correct conclusion, just make sure it's clear which school you're referring to when using NU. if you're talking about martinez or persa, it should be obvious.

It's a Big 8 thing.
NU = University of Nebraska (later, U of N, Lincoln after UNO arose athletically)
KU = University of Kansas
CU = University of Colorado
OU = University of Oklahoma
MU = University of Missouri

At the risk of high jacking my own thread, what’s up with OU and realignment?
OU seems really quiet, not to give you a hard time but it seems like OU was very tied to TX and content to let NU and A&M do the heavy lifting. Won't OU have to pick up the slack or get out now? Just can’t see them laying back any longer in the status quo now that NU and A&M are gone/going.
And I get the feeling visiting OU boards that the attitude is either "We'll be fine--we're OU" or "We're going to the PAC12". Only problem I see there is that there's only three conferences that can't be poached-the B1G, PAC12, and SEC, so the "we'll be fine" thing boils down to only three options.
Even though you're president seems intent to raise OU's academic profile (eliminating the SEC option), don't think you'll get an invite from the B1G, so aren't you stuck with the PAC12? But that seems like a terrible fit for Sooner fans-playing the Arizona's, CU, the Utes, and occasional long trips to Oregon and Washington---who'd be your rival? And the thought of your fans regularly rubbing shoulders with Berkeley, Stanford, and LA?
Would love to hear your take.

3 public universities in Nebraska:
University of Nebraska - Lincoln (University of No Learning)
University of Nebraska - Omaha (University of No Opportunity)
University of Nebraska - Kearney (University of No Knowledge)
When people are referring to the sports teams, it's "Nebraska", when they are referring to the school, they say "Lincoln". As in, "I chose to go to Lincoln so I could have easier access to the Nebraska games."
August 22nd, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
and by the time it was changed to University of Nebraska everybody was used to saying NU.
The Lincoln campus became University of Nebraska-Lincoln after merging with Omaha University and Nebraska State -Kearney in the 60's, so we sometimes use "UNL" which is perfectly acceptable. No one says "UN" though.
We have no problem with UNL if our senior B1G members prefer that, its just more force of habit for Nebraskans to use NU.

.thanks!

Why not NUL?
Oh, nevermind.

Taylor Martinez is like Denard Robinson, only not as fast.
August 22nd, 2011 at 3:13 PM ^
In all actuality he's not as durable either.
August 22nd, 2011 at 3:35 PM ^
I don't get the UM thing either. Hasn't it always been UofM?
Now get off my grass.

I approve of his search for separation. Because when he finds it, well...

Oh my Omameh!
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:03 PM ^
Love how Hammond can't handle it. Was happy the he missed six in a row.
August 22nd, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
faster, better passer, and better looking.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:16 PM ^
And tougher.

Maybe it's my maize-colored goggles, but I think there is no question at all that Denard is on a different plane of existence in terms of speed, and especially agility. He has a stronger arm and is (reportedly) making significant strides in terms of accuracy. We've seen some very nice deep balls and touch passes from him in the limited practice video available, and all reports indicate his timing is coming along quite well.
This whole Denard vs. "T-Magic" (which is a horrible nickname) thing feels very contrived by the media. Looking at the stats, it's not even a comparison:
Denard - Passing: 149.58 rating, 62.5% completion pct., 18/10 TD/INT, 198 yds/gm
Rushing: 6.65/carry, 14 TD, 131 yds/gm
Martinez - Passing: 138.78, 59.2%, 10/7, 125 yds/gm
Rusing: 5.96/carry, 12 TD, 74 yds/gm
Denard had a total of 4272 yards, an average of 328.6/game; Martinez totaled 2596 at 199/game. Once again, not even close.
And while they were both injured, Denard clearly showed more toughness since they both played in all 13 games.
And let's not forge all of the "elite" defenses in the Big 12.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:54 PM ^
They both started off pretty hot. Denard stayed closer to consistent than he did though. I agree Denard is better, but Martinez was pretty awesome the first few games of the season.
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
I'm not disputing that Martinez is a good player. I just think Denard has proven he is more talented, and I think his ceiling is much higher.
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:49 PM ^
which really was the point of my post.
I know the unanimous support for Denard here was completely objective, correct, and unbiased :)
Taylor set several school records last year as a freshman, which is saying quite a lot considering he played for a school known for run-first QBs.
August 23rd, 2011 at 3:43 AM ^
He broke school records, Denard broke national all-time records. That is not biased, just a fact.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
The comments that are posted at the end of the article are entertaining. One person actually posted that not only is Martinez better because his team had a better record (he actually said Denard lost us 6 games last year as if it were his fault) but he also said that Martinez is faster. Really? Not sure what film he was watching.
