At #2 in the odds!

[Edit: No Barstool links means exactly that:

NO BARSTOOL LINKS. NO EXCEPTIONS.

This has been a hard and fast rule for years and has been posted numerous times by Ownership and Management, in addition to being permanently posted in the FAQ and/or at the top of each and every Mod Sticky thread. -rob f ]

You know, I’m relatively new to Mgoblog, and so I’m not privy to the entire Barstool hate here. when I get texts from friends of things from barstool, some is good and some I can’t find anywhere else. I think also, over time, barstool is becoming more legitimate (I’ve heard on this board that they have a good podcast on their platform, and an earlier post mentioned a video posted on the front page). They seem to be a leader in sports betting (not that I advocate that either). Maybe it’s time to see if barstool has changed? But I’m not a mod, so who knows.

While I understand and appreciate your input, this has been the official position of the ownership and management of MGoBlog for years.  As volunteer mods, LSA and I and previous moderators have been pretty consistent in enforcing it, as has been Seth.

As with anything else, you and/or others are welcome to email Seth in regards to the rule. But until and unless he posts a change of policy, we will continue to enforce that rule.

Really looking at this Heisman race… couldn’t Young and Stroud split quarterback votes? I’m not sure one is much better than the other. and there is a lot of late hype for Hutchinson. It would be hard, but I think it’s possible for him to win it. Honestly, I’d be happy if he’s invited. But if he wins it, another great Michigan moment.

It's too bad Harbaugh didn't have Hutchinson return punts against OSU, as, since 1950, Michigan players must return a punt for a touchdown against OSU to quality for the Heisman. It's a lack of planning by the Michigan head coach.

(Tom Harmon, who could only manage to run for three TDs against the Buckeyes in 1940, pass for two more, intercept three passes, and punt three times for an average of 50 yards, was fortunate to play before the rule was created).

Most know that this award often doesn’t go to the best player. This year those politics actually do, or should I say could benefit the best player in college football this year because as we all know the talking heads love a good story and THIS is a good story.

Michigan winning ANOTHER defensive heisman is absolutely a story inside a storybook year.
If Bama loses (just another no brainer type reason to root for Georgia Saturday) and Hutch gets even one highlight reel moment, helping Michigan get into the playoffs off the back of their very first Big Ten Championship game victory  then the reality of him winning a heisman will get really loud.

Remember that we have legit players who are involved in the NFL and College that can move the needle of public perception and apply pressure to the conversations taking place behind close doors. This is politics and politics often are swayed by optics…

IMO their is a real shot at Hutch getting this trophy. It’s good for college football for him to get it and they know he’ll represent the club well. Those things matter.

Not saying he’s going to win it, just that this is getting real.

We just need to play our game vs. Iowa, shut them down and let AH and DO provide pressure like Purdue and UW did.

Hey - if the guy wins it all and then get drafted #1 by the liedowns, life is still great!

That has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Just a thought:  Maybe you could volunteer your time to moderate if you think you can do a better job. For starters, here's a list compiled by Managing Editor Seth, found at the top of every 'Moderator Sticky' thread:

https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/moderator-action-sticky-2021

And here is the FAQ section, chock-full of additional rules, info, etc, complements of MGoBlog Owner Brian Cook:

I suggest you may want to familiarize yourself with everything I just linked, especially the section about Barstool  (obviously you haven't yet done so), and then fire off an email to Seth telling him how awesome ?? you are.

Don't sell yourself short, I'm sure he'll be impressed!

PS, A helpful hint: you might also want to brush up your grammar a bit and know the difference between 'your' and 'you're'.  Best of luck ?!

PFF shows him 3rd now, behind Young and Stroud.

Hopefully we see another 3+ sack game out of him this weekend, and it wouldn’t hurt if he came down with an INT like he so nearly did this week or a strip sack TD.

Would be fantastic, but difficult given the reality.

The ESPN/SEC media is gushing over Young's 97 yard drive in the 4th quarter to tie (and later win) the game, and ignoring the rest of a mediocre performance. In these days of oversimplification and hype, it's the high-profile player (the QB or high-scorer) on the winningest teams that grabs most of the glory, and pretty much all else gets ignored.

I can't help but feel Heisman Trophy is the stupidest award in sports.  I may be a bit biased but the most deserving athlete to ever get it was Charles Woodson.

John Heisman himself never would have never even been considered for it because of the position he played.  They should rename the the thing The Most Decent Quarterback/Running Back on a Highly Ranked Prestige Team with a Good Offensive Line Trophy. OK, that's a little wordy and awkward to say but at least it's accurate.

Hutchinson is clearly the best athlete at his position and a strong case can be made that he is indeed the "most outstanding player in college football" but I'd rather he not be distracted by the whole award ceremony dog and pony show and keep his laser like focus on destroying the souls of opposing quarterbacks and anyone foolish enough to get in his way. A National Championship ring is the award that really matters.  And he could wear it all the time.  Although, Gino Torretta might carry his Heisman around.

Which raises the other issue, things don't always go so well for Heisman awardees.  Mr. Woodson being an obvious exception.
