Eddie McDoom vs Jehu Chesson race. Who you got?

Submitted by reshp1 on

. @CoachJim4UM... we're real close to having a race between Eddie McDoom and Jehu Chesson. That's who eddie would have to dethrone

So, who you got? I think Jehu defends his title, but it'll be close.

On the broadcast said McDoom has legit 4.3 speed I'm not sure Jehu is that fast.. then again Mcshay could be exaggerating

First, I'm just happy we can have this discussion and could even expand it to four or five guys.

I watched the Michigan247 Facebook Live stream of Speight's press session over lunch and someone asked him this exact question.  His answer: Jehu.

I actually think McDoom will take this. I love Chesson, but it almost looks like he's lost some speed, or maybe is afraid to go 100% after his bowl game injury. That's based solely on my untrained eyes.

He's never looked fast to me, but then when you compare him to the guys he's running past, he looks fast.  He seems to always have an extra gear.  Like that deep ball he barely missed last week...  The defender was keeping pace, until he wasn't.  Seems like he goes 90% and is one of the fastest on the field, then hits that extra gear when needed, then he's the fastest.

I don't know that he should have.  However, if he could have gotten a tad bit of separation before it was thrown then maybe it didn't need to be so far out in front and he could have run it down.  Last year you would see him slow up about the time the ball was thrown, this wasn't the case from what I could tell.  The ball was just too far.  Which was better than too short.  It was where it needed to be IMO.

He's probably still adjusting from the injury. He's always had great wheels and been an excellent blocker but I remember in his first two years on the field he used to have a hard time tracking the long ball. Seemed like he was misjudging the trajectory and how to compensate a lot. Didn't he get contacts or something too? Maybe he needs a checkup.

Exactly what I came here to say...McDoom seems to get going more quickly based on watching them both run the fly sweep (part of why I think McDoom has taken those carries from Jehu) but I think the long stride "Bolt effect" comes into play over a longer distance.
