My unpopular opinion is that Delaney was the ideal commissioner. I appreciated his cutthroat advocacy for the conference, and his foresight helped solidify the Big Ten as one of the dominant conferences. Most of the criticism of him, like the Leaders/Legends mockery, concerned rather inconsequential matters.

Overall agree but for a second let's just remember that Leaders/Legends was REALLY dumb. The two division names both sounded very similar and split up traditional rivals. Sure, there was competitive balance, but that's because OSU hadn't yet become the juggernaut they would and the conference as a whole was mediocre, probably less competitive than the Pac12 and Big 12 of the time. It was basically the Big Ten West writ large. You had to remember "the Ms the Ns and Iowa" and...yea that sucked.

Really the big thing from Legends/Leaders and imbalance in East/West is that the conference title game and divisions is not the best way to pick a conference champ. The conferences are too large. If you need divisions, you've done it wrong. Co-champs is better than this.

The shiny new Big Ten TV contract isn't free. NBC wants this. It forces Big Ten and die-hard college football fans to open their wallets for their Peacock service. Having around one Michigan football game per year on Peacock is going to be the price fans pay for the Big Ten getting this massive deal. Just wait until Big Ten basketball season.

It could have been much worse to be honest; at least three Big Ten football games are guaranteed to be on an OTA network channel in exclusive windows every week which is something no other conference can claim.

Well at least, since we are cutting the chord and paying $5, we get commercial free programming right? Right??? Tell me we arent paying to watch commercials.

"Hey how do we get them to start watching commercials again and stop DVRing games?"

"Oh I know streaming service AND we will make them pay!"

Next time the BIGTEN and UM make a boatload of cash off of a TV deal remember this is the bonus we get for these huge wins as fans. I really hate everyone in charge of college athletics. Dont pay the kids, fuck the fans, collect them checks, hire your buddies and give yourself a raise!

Sure, but the price NBC is paying is extremely fair and based on the presumption they would televise their big games nationally in the prime time slot. Instead, they seem to be using the Big Ten's brands as pawns to push their streaming service, with zero concern for the damage to the major brands caused by the reduced exposure. And the worst part is their plan won't even work. Us diehards will pay the money (or probably just borrow a friend's password because fuck NBC), but most will just not watch. The audience for this ECU game could quite possibly be the lowest of any "televised" Michigan game ever. That's beyond embarrassing in 2023, especially when even the SEC bottom feeders will playing on national TV on the ESPN family of networks.

I guarantee you that that if NBC pulls this shit for the duration of the contract, they will not be a part of the next one. And frankly, the fact that there apparently isn't some clause in the contract obligating NBC to make good-faith efforts to maximize exposure for the most valuable games is another appalling mistake by Kevin Warren.

I already have Hulu. Now I have to get this one. Of course, we will start like something on it and the family is going to want to continue with it. Isn't that what they are banking on? All in one cable was much simpler.

It'll be on the radio. No worries for me. Plus the girlfriend's son is getting married that day. Not like I would have had much chance to watch anyway.

This is why I like streaming sites that have clickable links to the game. Or any game for that matter. All at the price of just my internet. Tons of websites out there. Not to hard to find. Sure, you can't pause or rewind. But they usually show 48283858 replays of a play, plus I can use my laptop, tablet, phone, anything with access to the internet really. So I'll be okay down here.

Looks like I might miss my first Michigan game on TV in many years. I'm doubtful to sign up for yet another streaming service for this.

NBC is by far my least favorite online streamer to interact with. Love flipping between the Peacock app and the NBC Sports app to figure out where a game is being played.

I got sucked into Peacock to watch EPL games so this won't be a change for me, but I'm sure there will be plenty of pissed off fans who realize they can't watch the game when kickoff comes around this fall.

We should do an MgoCollective, and get as many shared accounts with usernames/passwords, and post to the diary.

FYI..You can buy Peacock Tv right now for $19.99 for a year. Not sure if I am going to or not, but not a bad deal, especially if they are going to televise college/nfl games.

That word you guys keep saying. Im not sure it means what you think it means.

Maybe its just me but I bet with 99% certainty if I bought the year I would remember to watch one certain event, forget to cancel and be pissed off a year from now when the renew at $99.

You can literally subscribe today for the year, then cancel the tomorrow, and the cancellation takes effect after your year is up.  You don’t have to wait 364 days to maximize value — you’ve paid for the year already.  Or at least that’s how the monthly service works.

it’s a pretty crappy service that I just cancelled, but they run deals all the time.  I got effectively 3 months three through statement credits on Amex.

Agreed. BTN is not free for most people especially outside the Big Ten footprint.

The NFL is going to putting a playoff game exclusively on Peacock starting this year. It's not just a Big Ten deal. Streaming services are coming for live sports, and sports fans are going to be worse off for it.

Will BTN be able to do the replay (BTN Football in 60) shortly after the game, or will the telecast and subsequent re-airings belong exclusively to Peacock?

Wont do it..out of principle I am not paying ANY MORE STREAMING services for sports..UNLESS its commercial free (which we KNOW wont happen) AND I wont give ONE PENNY to help NBC support MSNBC the biggest LIARS and race baiters on the planet

If they wanted critical viewing mass from this site, they would have put it on Newsmax.

Serious question - can one ‘DVR’ a game on peacock?  Couldn’t find an answer with a quick google search.  I often start watching an hour or so after kickoff.  Saves time and allows for flexibility (don’t have to rush home after kids soccer game for instance).  Losing this aspect would suck.

Leaders And Best

I have not watched sports on Peacock, but I know on other apps like ESPN+ or Fox Sports app, you can stream the broadcast from their library. So you can't actually DVR and store it locally on your device, but the game is usually available to watch in their streaming library for a certain period of time.

Someone more technically savvy may know ways to record streams to a local device, but it is not a function native to the streaming app and would require a third-party (and most likely illegal) app. It would be analogous to trying to record a movie or TV show off of Netflix.

Thankfully I have "gray area" live streaming. My monthly streaming bill is already around $200/mo just to cover all the bases & I'm not subscribing to another for one game just on principal. Really don't give a fuck if there's a free trial.

Peacock & its parent company can suck it...so can sell-out Kevin Warren.

You have to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything. I’ll play football in my backyard with my kids while the game is on then watch the highlights. Or I can follow along with all the bitching in the mgocomments

People are crying about 1 game on Peacock?

I look at it like this. I live in Florida thus I don't go to any games so $10 subscription for Peacock is my support toward the $100 mill check they'll be getting starting in 2025.

$10 would never keep me from a Michigan game. Plus I actually enjoyed watching the ND games on there because you have access to it whenever you want to watch/rewatch it.

Isn't Peacock free for Comcast customers? So at least there's that. Plus it's a home game, so I don't have to worry about it anyway (i.e. I'll be there)...

If we were going to get slapped with a streaming only game this year, this is probably the one to do it. Regardless, it is kind of ridiculous. UM and OSU are the main draws for the conference, they should be on the B10 national broadcasts nearly every week between FOX, CBS and NBC. Peacock only is for Indiana v Rutgers or Northwestern v Nebraska or Minnesota v UNC (much like BTN+ is). Doing this silos off a large number of people (both UM fans and causal nationals) from watching - which doesn’t do the conference any good. I know why they’re doing it ($$), but it is still really annoying from a spectators perspective (and this is coming from someone who already has Peacock)
