Are they giving Andrel Anthony the #1 jersey?

Probably placeholders if multiple WRs want it. Then they’ll have to battle it out in practice. But in general, Harbaugh has been de-incentivizing certain numbers as a reward, so even freshmen can wear them if they choose to do so.

That's one thing I like. The numbers were never incentives until Edwards wasn't working hard and Carr used it to get the best out of him. Carr was kind of a boring coach, but he was a master motivator.

I'd like the tradition to continue. Something guys can compete for and work towards. Or a reward for a long standing commitment and effort given towards the program. Nico getting it senior year was a perfect example.

All of the highlights I can find of Nico he was wearing #4.

Maybe JH loves him as much as he said he does. He fawned over A2 on signing day--said he was as ready to play as they come. We can hope it is true.

Really awesome that our OL commits are enrolling early. I don't think they'll play next year, but it gives them a big jump to challenge for playing time the following year.

It's not just good in terms of getting a jump on learning the line, its smart as a career decision. It's a lot easier to know exactly where you stand and have a degree in your hand after 3 years, allowing 2 more years to play elsewhere if the depth chart is not favorable.

i like jj mccarthy playing qb as #9. it's been a while since we had a qb wearing that number.
here's hoping he's as good as my first favorite michigan player, dennis franklin.

For me #9 as a QB will always remind me of Drew Brees. Here’s hoping McCarthy can be as good or even better than him over his career.

Wasn't he #15 in college?
January 19th, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
He was. But I associate him more with his pro career. Similarly, Tom Brady was #10 in college but he'll always be TB12 because of everything he's done in the pros. Manning will always be associated with #18 but he was #16 at Tennessee

i still recall someone on the radio referring to brady and talking about how "#12 is revered at michigan," which is...well, i guess it's true, sorta?

I miss Gordie Howe.

What number will Xavier Worthy wear?
January 19th, 2021 at 9:27 AM ^
Hopefully not number 1 at Texas ?
January 19th, 2021 at 9:27 AM ^
Edwards in the #7 looks nice. I have a feeling Worthy and Anthony will compete for #1 in the future.
January 19th, 2021 at 9:33 AM ^
He’s not Worthy.

I think Dunlap is going to surprise people. He’s a a ltttile more shifty than Edwards and is a pretty good pass catcher. Of course, he was also supposed to be a package deal with his WR teammate who naturally committed to OSU like all the top players in Texas do. OSU seems to recruit Texas more than Ohio.
January 19th, 2021 at 11:27 AM ^
Agreed. I really hope that Michigan uses Edwards properly and fully utilizes his talents. But Dunlap seems to be the kind of the North-South grinder back that Mike Hart has employed at his other stops.

Edwards reminds me of CJ Spiller.... high cut and thin legged.

Let's hope they all get a proper spring training.

Maybe a dumb question, but Edwards is still playing HS football, as he beat my alma mater, Belleville, on Saturday. Are individuals currently enrolled at the college level allowed to continue HS competition until the season is complete? I would imagine this is a rare scenario.
January 19th, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
Edwards is getting special exception to be allowed to do so. Probably granted due to the pandemic. In a normal high school year, he would not be allowed to do this.
January 19th, 2021 at 11:31 AM ^
Interesting question. I know EE still play in all-Star games in January but not normally high school games while also enrolled in college. I guess it’s a one-time waiver because high school football in Texas ended last weekend.
January 19th, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
Nevermind - did not see the question posed above.

Seems par for the course in the Harbaugh era... multiple RBs, multiple WRs, and no DT.
