Driesenga Hits Walk-off HR; M beats EMU 4-2

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The Michigan Softball team struggled today against cross-town rival EMU.  However, we came away with a 4-2 extra inning game thanks to Sara Driesenga.

Sara hit a 9th inning 2 run walk off home run for the win.  She finished the game 1 for 4 with the run and RBI.  She also registered a strikeout and a base on balls.  Ashley Lane went 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Lauren Sweet went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Haylie Wagner was in the circle today.  She finished with 2 ER off 7 hits.  She gave up 3 walks but had 13 strikeouts.  Yes I said 13 strikeouts.

Our pitchers have been very good thus far this year.  But with the season more than half over, we need to think about getting the bats going.  I know the girls, especially the seniors are kept awake by the drop in performance this year compared to last.  It has got to be killing them.  Coach is probably pulling her hair out and is about to see that Tarot Card reader on State St by the Red Lot and Golf Course.

But like I always say, A win is a win.

I thought this year would be one which took a good chunk of the season to evolve as a team. Although there has been improvement, but it does ot seem like they are really jelling as a team yet. It's not like they are having a bad year, but the past few years have set the bar pretty high.

very slow.  I thought we would have a little let down from last year.  The Freshmen needed time to gel.  Now that we have bonded, we need to put a thumping on Wiskey and Purdue to raise our ranking and get to the mid-teens.

This is unlikely though.  However, we could be a very high #2 seed and host a Regional.  If we won our Regional, we cold very well stay close to home.  Louisville, ND, Tennessee, and Ky could have big runs in the post season.

We have some good ball left.

I was puzzled by their batting order. Maybe it was as simple as wanting their 2 best batters to get the most at-bats. As a fan of the pitchers, I liked the wide strike zone. Make them swing.  With modern bat technology, pitchers take their lives in their hands when any part of the ball gets near the outside of the plate.
