Drevno under consideration for FAU job, per SI reporter
According to Pete Thamel, at SI, Drevno considered for FAU head coach job.
FAU Owl Access reports talks with Kiffin broke down and Kiffin considered long shot.

Poaching of our coaching staff will be inevitable. Harbaugh has a good track record of finding good replacements. Still, all of us were looking forward to Drevno playing a major role in continued OL development and 2017 OL recruitment. If he is truly being considered, hopefully he decides to stay and finish what he started.

The thing is, I think Drevno will always suffer from the perception that he is a glorified position coach. He's also done some weird stuff like leaving the NFL to take the same position, no promotion, with USC. If being a head coach is his dream, he might take a shot when one is offered. FAU need not be a poisoned chalice, there is enough talent in Florida to keep a MAC level school winning in that conference.
Plus, we could just promote Fisch and then bring in an OL coach.

Drevno is not on the path to a Big Ten HC job if he stays here.
I'll add that of course FAU is a challenge. So is any HC job. It's not a title promotion. It's a lot of added responsibility.

to take a pay cut. They can give them a small raise and stay in the middle of their conference salaries. That's very doable.
It's an issue for Kiffin, who makes about twice as much.

Will he end up unemployed after most likely winning a second consecutive NC?
December 12th, 2016 at 12:27 AM ^
Kiffin seems to be having second thoughts, if anything.

We need to consumate the new OL wall before leaves for greener pastures and get a pay cut.

No you're wrong FAU, go with Kiffin, he's your man.

You know, it may not be very often that you hear someone say "please hire Lane Kiffin" lately, but in this particular instance, yes, I wish they would as well. I like Drevno and would like to see some extended continuity in OL coaching.

I'd rather see Bama lose their OL coach than Kiffin, who's likely gone regardless.
I was surprised to see Doug Marrone on the list. He walked away from the NFl for that?
December 12th, 2016 at 11:58 AM ^
I'm surprised Cristobal hasn't gotten another shot. He'd be a good new OC for Bama.
Marrone seems like a toxic dude and I think the entire NFL was put off by his presumptive resignation from the Bills thinking he was in line for something better.

If he goes, he goes. This is the cost of having an elite head coach and coaching staff. The same thing happens at Alabama or Ohio State.

teaches more of a zone blocking scheme with pin and pull for IZ. That's a contrast to Harbaugh's offense which relies on gap blocking scheme.
Plus Wilson runs an air-raid offense which is completely different than what Harbaugh runs unless he's willing to change his philosophy which is doubtful.
December 12th, 2016 at 1:26 AM ^
Kevin Wilson runs the ball a fair amount to be an air raid. See Jordan Howard, Tevin Coleman, Adrian Peterson
December 12th, 2016 at 1:57 AM ^
doesn't necessarily mean pass, pass, pass. The scheme and concept are similar. It's an air-raid offense but Kevin Wilson emphasize running game more than Leach, Kingsbury, etc.
Wilson was the OL and run game coordinator prior to the OC job.

Just my prediction, of course, but Michigan will not overlook what he was fired for. I put him in the Art Briles category. They're both very competent offensive coaches. Briles got a lot more publicity for his failings, but they're both toxic.

Yeah, it wasn't very funny, just okay. He's usually pretty good, but always harsh. He has done a couple on MSU that were good.

Hard to judge an OL coach after only two years. He has guys recruited by Funk all starting, we lost one of our better tackles to injury, and our rushing stats are pretty good.
December 12th, 2016 at 2:50 AM ^
If I'm being honest, back to back ten win seasons is a great deal after the previous decade. It's just maddening that we still couldn't beat Ohio st, with such a senior laden team.
If Drevno does leave, I really hope Harbaugh stays away from Greg Roman. Being from upstate ny, I got to follow him very closely while he was with the bills. Roman sucks. He is so predictable, so conservative, and so behind the times.

Iowa is to Harbaugh, as last years MSU is to Meyer. Nobody knows what the hell happened in those games...
But the late game tightening against OSU had as much to do with Speight's shoulder as Harbaugh's tendency to do so. But otherwise, if you are blaming Drevno for all of the play calling, then you are a fool. For two years - since they all arrived - the three of them (Harbaugh, Drevno, Fisch) have said, repeatedly, that all of them talk about the plays and choose one together - and that Harbaugh has the final say. Yet you want to blame Drevno alone... Whatever.
Not to mention the state of the OL today vs two years ago today. You do remember two years ago today, right? Big improvement in OL play - they had finally stopped killing Gardner! Because there was no bowl game...
