Drake Harris moving to CB
I second your opinion that he's an unknown tackler and too frail in iso situations with RBs and TEs.
The biggest thing though, IIRC, is that the FS in Don Brown's system is the quarterback of the defense and calls out coverages. That's just too much to ask on top of trying to learn a new position. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if someone like McCray took over those responsibilities on this young squad.
We have a lot of talented freshmen and sophmores and only need to find 2-3 who are good considering we have TEs and WRs. I remain far more worried about the OL and DL depth
DPJ is a top 10 recruit. Tarik Black tore it up during spring ball and the spring game. The rest of the best WR haul in UM history is coming soon. Crawford got a lot of experience last year as a freshman running real routes and did a great job blocking. Mcdoom got a ton of snaps last year as well (although you are right that he ran mostly jet sweeps).
I hope so, would be awesome to have him an extra year and that would also mean the other CB's are holding up quite well.
And he will hopefully be on full time FG and PK block duties.
Hope I'm wrong and Drake finally gets some PT.
This could end up being a really good thing. Let's all stay tuned.
As Brian says it's early late for the Ways and Drake sort of guys. A position switch this late doesn't usually work - Freddy Canteen style. When you've had 3 years at your primary position to make an impact and you cannot, it's not good. Don't think this says anything about his CB skills - if he was switching to be a contributor it would have been pre-spring.
Darn
He's not likely to see the field in any significant capacity this fall. They've just moved him to a position where he is buried a little less deeply on the depth chart. Just like Canteen, he will putter around for a year, then say his goodbyes.
I've met Drake's mom and know one of her best friends. Drake fought hard to stay on this team, he was asked if he wanted to transfer and he had to fight to still have a spot. He wants to play any way he can.
This is a little confusing, though. Does he want to be on the team, or does he want to play? I can't blame him for either decision, but from what we're hearing, those are likely mutually exclusive.
Did Drake play CB in HS?
Start getting nervous when you hear he's repping at NT.
This wasn't Drake's idea.
