Donations to Hockey Legacy Fund Sought: Bad Timing?
Anyone else receive an email from Michigan Athletics this morning seeking donations in the "Ice Hockey Legacy Fund"? Timing of this email (which appears to be a mass email, perhaps to all hockey season ticket purchasers, but maybe to a broader base than that) seems curious, in light of yesterday's flop against Penn State in what was a must-win game. Personally, I would have waited to send that request; seems a little like throwing salt in an open wound to ask for donations for a program that has been nothing short of disappointing this season (and last).
Hopefully that image upload worked. In the event it didn't, the email seeking donation quotes the hockey locker room wall: "A rich tradition from the past and potential for future glory where anything but the best is unacceptable. To uphold the greatness and excellence that Michigan Hockey represents by becoming a part of something greater than ourselves. It's time to join the legacy."
On a related note, I wonder how many season ticket purchasers will opt not to renew. There's no question part of the purchase motivation is to follow and watch a winning team. Between the inconsistent play, lackluster performances, and the overall decline of the Yost experience, I wonder if there will be more than just a handful of people who decide they'd rather not purchase tickets. I will keep buying (for now), but I'm not sure everyone else is in that same boat.

I got that too. Between getting our football PSD renewal stuff right after a loss and now getting the hockey email right after losing to first year team PSU for the THIRD TIME (and representing like 3 of their 5 total wins) you'd think someone with half a brain in the Athletic Dept might want to look at the timing of their communications to donors/ticketholders.

That's okay, when the team is good again, you can find a seat on the bandwagon again!

Gotta find a way to pay for Dave Brandon's jet to fly nobody to the middle of nowhere while he's actually freezing his ass off in a motel in Houghton waiting for Mel Pearson to stop on by to sign the contract.

They beat BC and UMN.

Anything less than an NCAA Tournament appearance is a disappointment. 22 straight years of making it tends to raise the minimum standard for the program.

I for one am outraged! OUTRAGED, that college kids don't win every game they play!
I got this too. I don't think MIchigan's recent hockey teams would fare well under that standard, and the AD exhibited its usual marketing ineptness with the timing of this e-mail.

Not only has the team been down but the crowd is much different too. When i was in law school there from 96-98, that place was bedlam. when i was back for the ohio game this past fall, it was dead, silent, quiet, lame. on a friday night before the ohio game in a hockey game against ohio. how does that happen?
That was my first game back in a while too, but I blame part of that on the fact that it was the day after Thanksgiving.
