Div I-A OPENING DAY GAME THREAD

Submitted by crg on

Can't believe this is not up yet, but it's almost halftime in the Oreg St - CSU game, CSU up 24-17.  BYU is up on Port St 14-0 in the 2nd.

Screw ESPN, but TODAY is opening weekend of D 1-A football (and screw the FBS/FCS labels - only done to justify D 1-A not having a fully fledged playoff system).

Football is coming HERE!

Horrible call of incompletion for a game-tying touchdown at the end of the half against Oregon State.  Video review appeared rather clear that it was a good catch but the officials let the ruling on the field stand.  OSU gets a consolation field goal.  CSU up 24-20 at the break.

Still not clear to me why we have this hybrid kinda opening day. I know why the game in Australia is happening. Are the rest of the teams playing teams that have a game scheduled in Hawaii or something?

Major loss for OSU with starting DE carted off field less than a minute in the 2nd half.  They had lost a NT earlier in the game as well, but I did not see it happen.

Now a loss for the CSU OL, with the starting RT going down and in serious pain.  Walking off with two trainers helping him.

ORST had a chance to pick off a Tebow-style pass in the endzone by CSU, but the defender let is go through his hands (receiver was no where close).  CSU gets a field goal, up 27-20.

Two drives in a row for Or. St.  end in INT's the first a pick 6, the second a pass that floated long when Luton(Or. St. QB) got hit.  Think CSU looks like good value for the upset.

I'm very glad there is college football on, but next weekend will be such a different level of happiness. ONE MORE WEEK. At this time next week, we will be watching around the end of the third quarter, hopefully with UM up two or more touchdowns.

Portland State defense is putting up a very good fight against BYU; better offense execution and they might take the lead.  BYU might have a rough season this year.

ORST punter completely lit up by CSU after getting the ball away, but penalty not called since he was rugby style kicking.  Interesting that is the call now but the exact same thing was called against UM when they played ORST 2 years ago.  ORST recovers muffed punt and starts deep in CSU territory.

Is that the receiver, more often than not, will be practically by himself and the kicking team will have an extreme numbers advantage if it gets dropped. The thought must be that a likely turnover is enough of a punishment for dropping it. That's all I got.

Well, Oregon State is already in midseason form with the that takeaway right there.

It's like the OC specifically practiced "when not to throw" this week, and it stuck because Jake Luton is really good at finding the wrong window to the wrong guy.

Hawaii went for it on 4th down deep in UMass territory, got sacked, but intercepted the ball a few plays later.  Tied 0-0 less than 5 min into the 1st.
