Dilemma regarding traveling Paul Bunyan Trophy

Submitted by Blue_Goose on October 30th, 2020 at 9:22 PM

In summer of 2018 my Sparty Brother-in-Law bought a Paul Bunyan trophy replica during a visit to his Alma mater.  He declared with glee it would be a traveling trophy.  He of course had it for a few months and it now resides permanently in my home.

The question is if we should make it an “against the spread” traveling trophy.  I love the idea of keeping it, but it seems it might be more fun if there was an actual chance of it changing hands.

Give me your drunk vote below. It will likely determine the fate of Paul Bunyan!

If he came up with that suggestion that's just embarrassing. If that's yours, nice thought, but as Coach Reilly once said, "it's not worth winning if you can't win big."

? winner - don’t need to spot him 20 something points every year. Make his team earn it back!

by the way, I have the trophy at home and enjoy it! We have miniature helmets for Michigan and Michigan State. He has not worn the Michigan State one since we purchased it two years ago, and I don’t know when he will wear it. My wife went to Michigan State. It is great over the basement TV. We also have a little brown jug down there - it is also always faced towards the Michigan side since I purchased it.

OP, if you make it spread-based you'll never [1] see it again. :)

[1] I can't say this is data-driven, but I'd bet that Michigan hasn't covered the spread more often than not since the '90s.

Buy a small (little brother) version of the trophy - ideally a keychain version.

This way he too can have something to hold all year, in this case a daily reminder of being little brother.

The "Defeat With Dignity Trophy", if you will.

no way.  the trophy stays home, at your place, and hopefully is there for at least a decade before a transfer is even contemplated.

p.s.  not drunk though, so you don't have to count my vote.

My sober vote is that making it ATS is the only way he’ll get it back for a while. He declared with glee; you should declare with glee that his team will have to win it with a win, not a defeat with dignity.
