Devin on the change in M culture: Harbaugh v. Hoke Semaj as example

This has nothing to do with the portal, so maybe it's OT (/s)

Devin and Sam today.  Devin applauds JH essentially making Semaj appear on national TV. Just catch minutes 10-18 if you're pressed for time.

Summary:

1. Semaj spoke some questionable stuff last week.

2. JH likes the intensity, but also reins his player in: Cross the line a bit, but know just how far

3. JH puts Semaj on the national stage to give him an opportunity to prove he has learned something this week.

4. Every recruit in America should learn that JH wants you to be who you are, but be the best version of who you are.

5. (My summary) JH is crazy in all the ways we need him to be. And he has changed what it means to be a Michigan Man in a way that just might be a good thing.

I had this comment on the BTCG thread related to Harbaugh putting Semaj on TV:

Creative parenting there, given Semaj's previous escapades in front of a camera.  If you're gonna yap in front of a camera, let's do it for real.  Learn to respect it.

Like the time my parents caught my young brother trying to pretend-puff smoke a cigarette.  They lit up another one for him and stood in front of him and made him smoke it for real, all the way down.  By the time the coughs and tears were over, he figured out that he never wanted to do that again.

Harbaugh has a way with his guys.

Sam and DG start talking about Semaj at 2:10 in the video.  It's hilarious.

DG was like: "You can thank #4 (the Iowa gunner who ran down Semaj) for preventing an incident.  If Semaj scored, nobody knows what he would say, nobody knows what he would do.  He might take his helmet off.  Hell, he might take his clothes off."

You are definitely correct to the extent that without the punt return, he doesn't get brought to the mic. But I don't think it is reading too much into the narrative to think Harbaugh knew Semaj committed a bit of a faux pas a few days earlier, and JH weighed that event into his decision to put Semaj in the spotlight.

And...   What a recruiting line: Be great here, and you will be speaking on one of the biggest stages around.

When guys like Blake come in and have it together better than most 30 year olds, it is sometimes easy to forget that freshmen are generally 18 years old. Sometimes it's fun to see a little bit of the 18 year old come out. I think Semaj is going to give us all a lot of fun memories over the next couple of years.
