Day After Snowflakes / Early Thoughts on Purdue

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

Now that you've had a night to think about it, any changes? Sky still falling? What are your thoughts on the state of the team?

Moving forward, thoughts on Purdue?

Unitl the offense can convert drives into TDs, we will be in a dogfight or have close games (and eventually lose). I am optimistic that a road game will help focus the team more this week.

What frightens me next week isn't Purdue's uptick this season, but the fact that they are the most balanced offensive team we will face thus far. They have shown that they can both run and pass. Against the likes of Michigan's D? Far from it, but this could be the game where a youthful secondary could get burned a couple times if they aren't on their game.

Its time for Evans to have a big game, regardless if Ty plays or doesn't. Its also time to get the TEs heavily involved in the game. For all the talk of Harbaugh's TEs, we look like a team that has one on its roster. Has Ian Bunting even played this year? Has Wheatley even been targeted all season? Gentry is a star in the making and I've liked what I've seen from McKeon, but its like we don't even use them unless its to help the o-line. We need to utilize these guys because without them, our passing game is so one dimensional. Let them use their size and speed to find soft spots in the middle.

I think Wheatley has a catch but only 1 or 2. Bunting has been ignored - I think the fan base and this site imagined Bunting would have a bigger impact after the Orange Bowl. You make some great points. I trust a Harbaugh team in any dogfight, however, a lot fans concerns would be put at ease if there was a win in dominating fashion.

How can you "wish [you] was wrong" about something that hasn't happened yet? In fact, how can you "wish [you] was wrong" about anything? You can hope you will be wrong about a future event, and wish you were wrong about a past event, but you can't "wish [you] was wrong" about anything.

The coveted septuple post.  Not bad!  That means Michigan's going to lose by 28, right?

The lines don't seem to be out yet, but something tells me that Las Vegas isn't going to share your pessimism.  Massey has Michigan 38, Purdue 17, with a 91% chance to win.  Sagarin has Michigan as a 14 point favorite.  Michigan is 11th in S&P+; Purdue is 71st.

Seriously, even good, experienced Purdue teams don't beat Michigan often.  Michigan is 43-14 all time against Purdue, including 16-9 in West Lafayette -- and one of those losses was 2008.

Step back from the ledge, everyone.

Joe Tiller had some outstanding teams and even then Lloyd handled them pretty well. The only one M lost was the 2000 game, in which M blew a huge halftime lead. The 2004 game was dicey, but most of those games were blowouts.

first big ten road game.

Maybe the best team Michigan will play so far this season.

I believe their head coach is the real deal.

Lingering question for me for a few day's. If Wilton has complete understanding of offense is coach Harbaugh keeping the wrap on a few or many play's? I'm excited about this game.

When is the last time Michigan has played in West Layfette.

I miss The Big Ten conference. Played every team. Had a true champion every year. Now this mess.

You don't need an apostrophe to make a plural.

Purdue is not the best team Michigan has faced this year.  Florida is.  Purdue might have the best offense, but none of their opponents have played defense, so we don't really know.

Michigan's last game in West Lafayette was a 44-13 victory in October, 2012.

There were only a few years that the Big Ten had a true round-robin schedule.  Most years, prior to adding Penn State, they had 8 conference games and missed one team.  For example, Michigan didn't play Purdue in 1967, 1968, 1987, or 1988.  (And scheduling was really wonky prior to 1961 -- in 1960, the Big Ten had only 7 conference games; Michigan didn't play Purdue between 1952 and 1961).

and our O is mediocre at best If the game was in A2 I'd take us...but at Purdue, where we've blown many a game in the past, I see us losing. I compare this to the Iowa loss last year. We will out play them but the chips will fall their way in the end.

Just because you keep saying it, doesn't make it so. In what way is the defense over-rated this year? They are giving up an average of 10 pts a game, averaging south of 90 yds per game rushing including 168 to AF yesterday (which by the way is pretty much all AF does) and are averaging 7 pts a game on their own.
