A couple of Michigan sports updates (WGym and Wrestling)

Don't really follow either sport during the seasons, but saw that our defending national champion and #1 ranked women's gymnastics team was taking on defending Big Ten champ and #7 ranked Minnesota in a dual meet.

Michigan won by a score of 198.025-197.650. I don't know if that's a huge gap or not, but apparently Minnesota put up a very strong score. BUT 198 is apparently a HUGE score and it was only the 5th time in program history that Michigan has eclipsed that mark, and UM is the first team to do so this season.. Junior Sierra Brooks is apparently our top gymnast and led the team in the all-around scoring, although she was third all-around behind two Minnesota gymnasts. That tells me that Michigan is deeper and stronger than Minnesota top-to-bottom, which bodes well for the rest of the season.

As for wrestling, there was a lot of talk about #1 psu beating up on #3 UM pretty good over the weekend. Good news is that Michigan bounced back with a dominant win over #14 Rutgers by a score of 32-8. In all, Michigan won 8 of 10 matches, including an upset at the 197lb weight class, as #8 Patrick Brucki (UM) defeated #6 Greg Bulsak (RU) 4-2.

And nope, I'm still not Wolverine Devotee.

Thanks for the updates!

While I believe that you are not Wolverine Devotee, are you really Oriental (feel a little squeamish using that term, but I'm just using the term you are using) and are you really Andrew?

I think Natalie Wojcik is Gymnast #1 - for some reason she didn't participate in bars last night, so was not participating in the All Around. Brooks is also excellent, though and an argument could certainly be made between the two.  Last year Wojcik's best all around (if I'm reading the stats page correctly) was 39.7750 while Brooks' best was 39.6500

Good stuff WD.

Yeah, I don't know a ton about gymnastics scoring but I do have a passing knowledge of math and I know the maximum possible score for a meet is 200 so 198+ is pretty damn impressive.

PSU is just crazy talented at wrestling so losing the way they did isn't really an indictment of their skill.

So, does our W Gym team look to have future Olympians on it?  Not too far from 2024... or maybe they are too old by that point?  It seems the age for female gymnasts in the games is *much* lower than just about any other sport.

Minnesota had 2 10s which apparently is unusual and also scored 1 and 2 in the all around standings so apparently we have a very strong team from top to bottom
