From the MLive article:

Hoke asked about Devin Funchess' potential: "Potential is not really a good word. If someone says you have potential, and that's all they say, that's not very positive.

Love the sentiment of Hoke's comment here.

Potential is unrealized actual.  A football team needs any existing potential turned into actual performance.

I can see how Hoke gets what he gets out of his players.  Not giving into the contemporary fashion of granting potential value in itself, Hoke is sending a clear signal -- we don't value potential, we value results.

I admire Coach Hoke more and more every day.

Yes, but ... he qualified that discussion of Wormley with "'potential' is a dangerous word".  He knew full well the supposed 'trap' he was falling into.  Further, in his original quote he qualifies the use of the word "potential" by saying "if that's all they say about you."  Hoke spoke of Wormley's hard work and dedication as well.

"Potential" is a word that's hard to avoid altogether.  Hoke's point -- which is superbly valid -- is that potential as an attribute by itself isn't worth much.

Seems like a great kid - we really have a lot of young men to be proud of as reps of UM.  This trend will continue and grow with the type of kids Hoke & Co are recruiting plus the family atmosphere.  Same goes for coach B on the hardcourt - class all the way.  As the song goes: "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!"

I find it funny (and I mean funny, not annoying or anything) that lefties feel the need to point out every other left handed person in the universe. My wife is a lefty and everytime she sees another lefty she has to point it out...I have no idea why, just that she does. I often wondered if it was because of some deep seeded shame she has felt in her life for being left handed (not that there is anything to be ashamed about, I just can't figure out what the reason is) and she is seeking some sort of validation by pointing out other who have the same trait....

Anyway, another thing I have always wondered about is why the number of left handed people in sports is so disproportionate to the general public (especially hockey) The split of hockey players is probably pretty close to 50/50 but in the general population it is what...like 10%? I don't know why but I always found that interesting. Perhaps lefties (in general) are more athletically inclined on a proportional scale.
