Coach Howard comments on transfers of Brown AND Eastern
In a somewhat informal interview with BTN, Coach Howard discussed the transfers of both Chaundee Brown and Nojel Eastern. There had been some speculation the Nojel wasn’t happening based on the school never announced anything. I would hope Howard wouldn’t say anything about either of them if they weren’t a done deal

So what did he say

#3 will leave you speechless!
Opposing coaches hate Howard for this one simple trick...
The interviewer asked him about both guys and Juwan responded with a bunch of coachspeak about toughness and competitiveness and blah, blah, blah, but it was clear from his comments that, in fact, both of them are coming, so that's nice.
Didn't he commit a minor violation by talking about an unsigned recruit last year?
No. Wagner was a silent commit who had secretly signed a NLI, therefore no rule was broken.
Not according to that paragon of truthiness, RCMB. They're still banging on about what an idiot Coach Howard is and how he's in over his head for mentioning Wagner's name. Of course that's par for the course at a place that revels in its own ignorance and counterfactuality.
I'm pretty sure the rule about mentioning commits by name doesn't apply to transfers.
That would make sense. Eastern isn't in high school anymore.
yeah, and coaches can regularly comment on opposing players, so talking about their game wouldn't be out of bounds. the ncaa would have to have some sort of tampering rule like in the nba, but i've never heard of such a thing..
Here's a few things he said about each kid:
Chaundee Brown: “ I had the chance to get to know him and his family. He’s a great kid. He understands what he wants in life. Great kid, comes from a good family. His mom and dad raised him right. Tough-nosed competitor. Played for a great coach in Danny Manning. I know Danny a little bit. We were teammates in Dallas. We’re going to be happy to have him be part of our team.”
Nojoel Eastern: “It’s hard to game-plan for a guy like Nojoel. I was always scratching my head because he’s a match-up problem for any opponent. Another guy who plays the game the right way. He’s really big on “Coach, I want to improve.” I love guys who are honest with themselves. He wants to get better. Comes from inner-city Chicago, that’s for competitors only. That’s what Nojoel Eastern is all about. He’s a competitor.”
I really believe that the NCAA should approve immediate eligibility for anyone transferring this year. These kids have been separated from their teammates for months and just about anyone can make a claim of mental distress caused by the pandemic. It's time for the NCAA to care about the student-athletes more than the almighty dollar!
