Clarification on new NCAA ruling regarding college eligibility and NBA draft
If you don’t have time it basically states in short the new ruling allowing players to return if undrafted is not in effect until agreed upon by NBA. Only mentioning because I’ve been reading Poole’s stock might’ve dropped this weekend and he was already considered by many a second round pick...
IIRC, Poole was selling his signature or something along those lines a few weeks ago, so his eligibility would be gone regardless.
He is on Cameo
The story was broken by the Drew and Mike podcast
But coaches who have paid players are good to go. I get it.
Poole is toast because he is already selling his autographs. Matthews is toast because he has hired an agent. Iggy can still return as far as I've heard, but is very unlikely to do so.
You can hire an agent and still return this year. There are certain stipulations and I don't know how they apply to Matthews, but regardless it's safe to assume he's gone.
True, as long as you don't accept money from said agent and you part ways before a certain time frame.
Poole threads are back!!!
Regardless of Poole or any other player. My main point of the post was that the new rule stating that undrafted players who hire an agent and attend the combine can return to school is not in effect until agreed upon by the NBA. With no agreement from the NBA, a player could hypothetically return to school and leave mid year for the NBA, so the rule is a moot point until the NBA adjusts their rules on eligibility.
