Cincy fluff article on HOW they'll beat Michigan

Submitted by Blue 4 Life on

I'm a homer but this goes beyond anything I could have ever come up with. This idiot that writes for Cincy actually is picking them to beat Michigan by a score of 34-31.

He highlights portions that say they "MIchigan " Got By " Florida and spelled out that the Bearcats held back against Austin Peay so they wouldn't give up their playbook.

Once you comb through the hype, it wasn’t a blow-out win or even that impressive of a win over Florida. Think about it. The Gators were actually up at the half 17-13, and only trailed Michigan by nine with under two to play in the fourth quarter.  With 1:37 left in the fourth, Florida QB Malik Zaire failed to secure the ball dropping back out of the shotgun into his own end zone. Michigan’s defense caused Zaire to fumble and recovered it for a touchdown bringing the score to 33-17. It was a close game, despite that Florida failed to score an offensive touchdown, suspended ten of its best players, and Florida was prevented from fully preparing because of Jim Harbaugh’s late-roster-release-weak-sauce-move.

This is some funny $hit

No, he got downvoted for trolling for upvotes by posting something as mundane as "Beat Cincinnati."  He could have at least used some colorful adjectives or adverbs:  "Crush Cincinnati" or "Beat Cincinnati Handily."  Wouldn't that be better?

"Repel them!  Repel them!  Make them relinquish the ball!"

I misread the votes as WD's score prediction, and thought he was predicting Michigan to beat Cincinnati by a score of 54 to -21, which would be unusual even for a Brian Cook prediction.

I would have made all the same arguments if someone wanted me to write a sarcastic article on why Cincinnati will win. Obviously, the writer intended all of this to be read sarcastically.

With thanks to BiSB:

"I will leave you with this: Austin Peay is an FCS school. But more than that, they are the FCS school that the other FCS schools laugh at. They went 0-11 last year. They went 0-11 the year before that. They went 1-11 the year before that. They went 0-12 the year before that. Their nickname is the GOVERNORS for crying out loud.

Austin Peay outgained Cincinnati 313-248."

Yeah....they have a chance to beat us.....

/s (there's your sarcasm)

They lost 10 of their best players, err credit card scammers. Who were neither starters nor good scammers.

It does manage to throw all the BS in one place, I'd read a few of these prior and it's silly.  I cannot wait to see us dismantle Cincy this weekend.

Please forgive Cincy. College Sports writers forget what it feels like to be relevant. Only bright spots they've had is Brian Kelly's 3 years of success and Xavier basketball.

I've never looked forward to watching my alma mater get whooped until now.

I've been perusing some of the other Cincinnati online presence and almost all of them are making much more reasonable assessments.  The SBNation site leads off with "Let’s go shock the world...and not lose by 30+." and describes their win over Austin Peay as "a wet fart of a time". Many of them are wondering if they'll score at all, and the line (Michigan by 31-24 generally) seems to be held up as a fairly reasonable prediction.

That article was absolutely toungue-in-cheek, and I'm rather ashamed of the board here because so many people appear to have missed that fact and taken this piece seriously (and been offended by it).  Some even seem to think that this blog writer is a journalist.

The humor there is dry, but it is clearly humor.

Look at the titles of the other articles on that blog.  They are all of that same tongue-in-cheek quality (the title for their Luke Fickel piece is "Wunderkind, Winner, or Wizard?")

this reads exactly like last years rutgers preview that some nj slackjaw wrote before the game. god i wish life was so easy that all you had to do was say something was going to happen and it did.

that guy clearly does not know what he is talking about.

I don't think we will cover the spread though.  It is my estimation that there will be a little lag early from Michigan after a big nuetral site win and it will be one of those games where half way through the second quarter we will all be like "seriously why is it 10-6 right now?"  I think eventually we will open up a can to the tune of like 35-13 but I don't think we are going to cover a 35 point spread this week.

Against a defense the caliber of Florida maybe. Even then, one pick was his fault. We're still talking about Cincy here. Not exactly a defense capable of capitalizing on Michigan mistakes and their O probably isn't good enough to do much with good field position.

I negged you because you used "your" instead of "you're," which is the same grammatical error the post you're responding to made. Your would be correct if you were using "underestimating" as a gerund, as in "your repeated underestimating in this case really bothers me."
