Cincinnati fires their basketball HC
Would they attempt to poach any of our assistants?
Or maybe John Beilein?
When the college basketball job carousel started, it seemed like Beilein was looking for a new opportunity. IU, Marquette, Texas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Utah, and Boston College jobs have all been open and now filled. Not sure how many he was considered for or if he turned any of them down, but if he is actually seeking a new job, this might be one of his last opportunities in this cycle. Especially if he wants to stay in the Midwest.
I've seen Beilein's name linked to Arizona a couple of places, and it makes sense that he's someone they'd look at if they want to turn a new page.
It's hard for me to believe that none of the schools with vacancies reached out to him. Maybe he didn't get as many calls as he would have gotten if he were younger, but he must have gotten a couple. It's possible that he's in no hurry and is just waiting for the right opportunity. Cincinnati seems like a place that might be a good fit.
I'm not hearing Beilein's name mentioned at all among UC fans here and I think he might be someone who'd be hard for them to warm up to. They've had many decades now of hard-assed coaches (Huggins, Kennedy, Cronin, and now Brannen who may have crossed the line to and beyond disrespectful) and edgy players and it's what they expect. Beilein's demeanor wouldn't fit the ethos they've built.
They realize they need a little less of the hard-ass stuff going forward, I think, but Beilein's a bridge too far. Archie Miller's the name I'm hearing most. Bryce Drew came up a couple of times, too, which also seems a terrible fit so maybe I'm wrong about Beilein?
Enter one of the Miller bros...
How about both?
Maybe Sean could be Archie's recruiting coordinator.
I am rooting for Archie Miller to get the Cincinnati job, and Xavier to hire Sean Miller next year if Travis Steele flames out there. The Crosstown Shootout would have new life breathed into it. I know it will never happen
Love the Crosstown Shootout. Life is better with working rivalries.
Archie Miller is the hot name here. Seems too logical so it probably won’t happen.
Person who mentions maybe John Beilein.
it'd be a miller full circle...
I feel bad for David Dejulius, man. Transfers away from his home state to Cincinnati because he’s worried about Josh Christopher taking his PT, only to go to a dumpster fire Cincinnati program where he has obvious struggles while his old program sets the big ten on fire all year without even having Christopher on the roster. Would’ve been nice to have him for guard depth when Eli got hurt.
Always liked him as a player, and I hope he can find a situation that fits his talents.
