Christmas Snowmageddon - Winter Storm Elliot Approacheth
Mates,
A big part of our country is now under the gun for winter storm Elliott. In Michigan, up and down the state, 1-2' of snow is expected and they are talking about 50 mph winds to accompany the snow. Plans for Christmas travel are greatly impacted and of course, you better have your house in order, supplies, what to do if/when the power goes out.
...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THURSDAY TO 7 PM EST SATURDAY... * WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected Friday. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. * WHERE...Portions of southwest and west central Michigan. * WHEN...From 4 PM Thursday to 7 PM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will mainly impact Friday and Saturday travel. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While the snow will start by mid afternoon on Thursday, the strong winds will not start until Friday morning. It is then that conditions will become dangerous due to low wind chills, blowing snow, and very low visibilities. Power outages are possible.
Snow should be done by later on Christmas Eve, but it's going to be a donnybrook from tomorrow night until then. Please be careful, plan ahead, and yeah, you better get your shopping done early tomorrow! I am told that Santa has already contacted Rudolph to guide his sleigh
Be careful out there,
XM

I’m in Colorado. The temperature dropped 50 degrees in an hour yesterday evening. Looks like 6 inches of snow outside. It is supposed to be back up in the 40s by this weekend.

I hope the weather is mostly clear by Saturday Morning. I have to drive from South Bend to Detroit to pick up a flight to Myrtle Beach.

tapering off by then, but you still might be navigating some issues on the road. less snow further east, so that might help a lot, tot. good luck.

Oh to be a weather forecaster - they have multiple weather models to choose from and always seem to select the worst. If they're wrong, they can always blame it on the jet stream shifting or some other such lame excuse.
As for me, I'll believe it when I see it.

Waiting for the inevitable "shut everything down after three inches of snow" form of armageddon here in the DC area

If you get 3 inches of snow from this you would have to be in the little known Pennsylvania section of the "D.C. area". D.C. area will at best get a dusting.

I imagine Santas' sleigh being bowled over by winter storm Elliott. Actually, I prefer bomb cyclone Elliott.

Already adjusted plans to stay home tomorrow and family get together on Saturday may get pushed back. If the power stays on it won't be a big deal.
Judging from the mobs of people at Meijer last night and again this morning everyone in the general area will be well stocked with food, booze and gifts. I was actually surprised they were not out of more things, the only things I really noticed were completely unavailable were eggs and hash browns. Other staples like bread and TP and milk were lower than usual but not sold out.

The better half said, "we're supposed to get a bunch of snow tomorrow" I said I thought they were only calling for like 4". She say's "That's a lot"....
I like how you think honey.....

My wife and I have been on the road for 15 days...to Mobile for 5 days with my brother, then to Sarasota for 6 days with my sister and yesterday we arrived in Harrisonburg, VA at the in-laws...a few miles short of 3,000 miles. Beautiful weather until the leg from Florida to Virginia. This morning there is sleet/freezing rain-wind and snow tomorrow. Will be here for 5-6 days...brief stops in Columbus and Indy on our way home...4,000+ miles in abut 3 weeks.
We have ridden about 100 miles on our bikes but the golf clubs have not seen the light of day-nor will they now. This morning I made caramel, the real stuff-sugar, corn syrup, cream and butter, with the great nieces...turtles, chocolate covered cherries and peanut brittle to follow.
I believe Michigan's signing-day along with the portal additions are fantastic-very well targeted to the roster needs. If this coaching staff remains well-intact, 2023 will very likely challenge very strongly for a play-off berth.

in Cleveland area we’re only expecting ~6” but wind gusts of 40-80 mph so potential for loss of electricity and internet.
I need to get a generator and have it tapped into the natural gas one of these days.
stay safe everyone

My kid is driving home right now from WMU. Asked how the road are and she responded....."just like any other winter day in the UP." Bring it on, Elliot! Go Yoopers!

Crazy weather. I'm in SW Ohio, and it's going from 43 degrees at 9 PM tonight to -7 by 7 AM tomorrow morning. Not expecting anywhere close to the snowfall totals that you good Michiganders are, though. Even crazier -- nine days from now, it's supposed to be 60 degrees here.
Stay safe, everyone!

Nasty out here in Settle. Ice storm hit last night. Sea-Tac airport is closed until at least noon. It's supposed to warm up this afternoon though
