Charles Woodson Momentarily Enters the Recruiting World
In the quest to try and land Aaron Scott(https://twitter.com/CharlesWoodson/status/1673476714893131777?s=20), Charles Woodson tweeted this last night:
Scott is the #1 CB on Michigan's board and they are fighting in-state OSU for his commitment, which is set for one of the two schools in July. In response, Braxton Miller, Ted Ginn Jr. and Troy Smith all tweeted at Scott.
This is the first time that I recall Woodson recruiting in some capacity for Michigan on social media. Scott would be a big win for Michigan, hopefully it helps!
This is a serious question... how the HECK do you type all that and leave out PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME ?
I wanted to see if anyone else could add details to the description which was shared.
Ok, tbh - that was an obvious oversight and I stand corrected - thanks for pointing it out and reminding me.
#2 - fantastic on a jersey. Go Blue!
I guess that whole "don't tweet at recruits" doesn't count for Heisman-winning, NFL Hall of Fame Alumni. Geez, talk about a double standard
You know what those three former Buckeyes players who tweeted at Smith have in common? None of them was a fraction as good as Charles Woodson
Honestly, I don't follow or read ANY recruits. I only get info because everyone else is and they post it. I think it's wrong to follow or tweet @ any recruit or college player. I do not think fans should respond to ANY tweet a recruit makes.
Dudes, we're middle aged men. We aren't high schoolers or college kids.
You guys might neg this but, oh well.
Following recruiting is not weird, in fact I'd argue it separates CFB from the NFL because there is something to track 365 days a year.
I do agree with you that tweeting at high schoolers is wrong, but recruiting itself is awesome. The Nike camps, Elite 11, UA and Army All American games, etc...introduce you to future NFL players. I remember following DPJ's progression from Cass Tech to Michigan to the NFL. Same thing with Brandon Graham, soon to be Jadyn Davis, etc....
Basically agreeing with half of what you say because having access to 17 year old players and communicating with them is super odd. But the other half with all things recruiting is fantastic.
I follow all of recruiting too. But I don't tweet at them. Dion't like their tweets. And don't respond.
there was one guy that actually asked fans to contact him. That's fine.Yeah I drive my family crazy with recruiting. lol
It's pkay to reply tweet a quick "Go Blue!" or something but yes I think everyone agrees here. Tweeting at near-children is weird.
But there's no need to even say #goblue. It's weird.
That's ok though, I respect your opinion.
I don't think there's anything wrong with following recruiting on its face. It's interesting, you get to see where the staff is looking to bring in talent, learn a little about these kids' families and where they come from, learn more about the assistant coaches who often lead the recruiting and their skills and personalities..there's a lot to like about that.
Hinging your fandom on the whims of teenagers, stalking them on social media and trying to analyze every tweet or like to read the tea leaves and calculate what they REALLY mean, tweeting at them (don't do that), and then bashing them for choosing another school or decommitting is where I think it crosses into the realm of inappropriate. Follow recruiting all you want, but keep it and the kids at arms length - worry about who shows up on campus and go from there.
Agree with everything you say and I don't use twitter but you make a ton of sense.
Unfortunately, I imagine its hard for many, if not most, to do one without doing the other. Following kids, browsing through comments and then having the impulse to tweet at them and/or comment on other's tweets is part and parcel of social media. The algorithms are designed to draw people in, get them browsing, then engaging/supporting/arguing/pissed off and then they are hooked.
just a reminder to everyone - charles woodson can tweet at recruits. you, however, should not.
Charles Woodson > Braxton Miller, Ted Gin Jr. and Troy Smith combined!
Notable that its only OSU offensive players tweeting him, not their cornerbacks, because none of them ever rose too high after college. This alone should be a subtle message. I hope he reads this.
Damn..I can't believe you felt compelled to even write that.
Even stating this gives those Buckeyes too much credit.
"Come to OSU and you get to practice against the best wide receivers in the country."
You got to practice against the best wide receivers in the country the last two years. Can someone let me know how that's worked out for them?
All world QB (except in the colder parts of the world..but lets ignore that for a min) throwing to all-world WRs....
=
Double blowout... LL's.
I mean, I doubt Charles will have much of anything to do where this young fella goes, but its freakin hilarious to me that those three jabronis responded, they can't hold Charles water bottle let alone be in the same sentence as him. LOL
