Chances PSU Game is at night?

Submitted by bleeker on October 29th, 2021 at 7:46 PM

Hey board,

sorry to distract from #respek week, but does anyone have an educated guess if our game @PSU will be at night? PSU has hosted two night games already, and Michigan has hosted one (Wash.) and played at Nebraska. Not sure what current conference/school rules might be regarding night games and November night games.

Cheers, and remember to be nice to little brother.

Matt Sarz (the TV on college football guy) had a post/tweet a couple weeks ago that indicated that November B1G games can be night games if they were "pre-selected by the conference as eligible to be a night game" prior to the season.

Iowa @ Northwestern is going to be a night game next weekend (it will be primetime on either FOX, FS1 or ABC).  Reportedly Iowa had no veto ability on that.

Take that FWIW.  But I'm not sure it is 100.0000000% correct that U-M has an absolute veto here.

Iowa and Northwestern did finish 1-2 in the West last year.  Northwestern's win over Iowa won them the West last year; flip that result and Iowa was in Indianapolis instead.

Given that and from the POV of "this game would have been pre-selected back before the season started", it makes more sense.

Yes, U-M @ Iowa was announced in May 2016 as a night game (7 PM or 8 PM), network TBD.

But on the other hand, Iowa @ Northwestern wasn't announced back in the spring as a pre-scheduled November night game ....... yet now it is.  And that announcement seemed to be a surprise, reading the Iowa and NU boards.  Minnesota @ Michigan in 2017 was a bit of a surprise November night game too.  One 2021 game that was announced back in the spring was Nebraska @ Wisconsin on November 20 --- but only its network (ABC/ESPN) was announced, not a time.  No indication of whether that time would be 12, 3:30, or perhaps something else.

I suppose I'm just not 100.0000% on ruling it out as a night game.  I could see a scenario where there are "games with an option to be a night game" (e.g., Nebraska @ Wisconsin, and perhaps others), but w/ nothing publicly announced.

It's imperative the proper regression analysis is performed relative to the transeconomical nomenclature that dictates the entropically fortified reticule dynamism. Only then can we extrapolate the endoplasmic reticulum of meterialistic probability of dornamism of the extriculicurating furchissitude of techno fortitude inductionizing emblomatist titrations.

Only way it would happen in November is Michigan would have to agree to it. Even if Michigan were the #1 team in America winning by 40 points a game I’d still say Michigan should turn that offer down.

In either case, after Penn State falls to 5-3 and gets hamblasted 45-17 by OSU this weekend, I doubt the powers-that-be at PSU care enough to want to make the Michigan game a night game anyway.

Two major Big Ten East matchups that will bring the division title race into focus the final college football Saturday of October 31, as we head into the homestretch. No. 20 Penn State will head to Columbus to take on the fearsome No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes of Ohio State, while No. 6 Michigan will play No. 9 Michigan Staee in their annual rivalry game in East Lansing. The winners of those two matchups will be heading full steam ahead to a potential division title and New Years Six bowl berth. They aint the only big games on the slates, though. No. 1 Georgia will tee it up against rival Florida in one of the last big tests the Bulldogs face prior. If the Bulldogs can hold serve and Kentucky loses, Kirby Smarts crew will clench the East Division title. There will be a lot going on Saturday afternoon and night, so heres a viewers guide to help you navigate through all the egg-citing action.

All times easternThe best gamesNo. 6 Michigan at No. 8 Michigan State -- noon on Fox: The Spartans have emerged as one of the most complete teams in the country, and it will have its work cut out for it as it looks to slow the stout Spartans rushing attack led by Kenneth Walker III. If the Wolverines come out on top, itll serve as a much-needed rivalry win for coach Jim Harbaugh.No. 1 Georgia at Florida -- 3:30 p.m. on CBS: The SEC on CBS Game of the Week carries a lot of intrigue on both sides of the ball. Gator Nation has become frustrated with coach Dan Mullens inability to settle on a quarterback, while Georgia signal-caller JT Daniels status is still unknown as he recovers from a lat injury. The Bulldogs are also looking for revenge after Florida got the best of them last season in Jacksonville.No. 20 Penn State at No. 5 Ohio State -- 7:30 p.m. on ABC: Penn State is coming off of the embarrassing nine-overtime loss to Illinois last week, but coach James Franklins crew could get back on track by springing the upset. With that said, his offense might have to win a shootout against the Buckeyes and quarterback C.J. Stroud. Good luck with that.Other big gamesNo. 9 Iowa at Wisconsin -- noon on ESPN: The Badgers are still lurking in the Big Ten West title race, and a win over the Hawkeyes would be huge heading into the final month of the season. Meanwhile, Kirk Ferentzs team needs a win to keep their faint College Football Playoff hopes alive.No. 10 Ole Miss at No. 18 Auburn -- 7 p.m. on ESPN: This one will likely serve as a de facto SEC West elimination game. The loser will have two conference losses, which makes a late run at Alabama almost impossible. Keep an eye on Rebels quarterback Matt Corral. An impressive performance on the road against a ranked team would reinforce him as a Heisman Trophy front-runner.North Carolina at No. 11 Notre Dame -- 7:30 p.m. on NBC: The Tar Heels still boast one of the top quarterbacks in the country in Sam Howell, who can open things up in a hurry if teams arent careful. Safety Kyle Hamilton wont play for a Fighting Irish team that still has hopes of reaching its third CFP in four years.Best of the

Nearly positive that only the first weekend in November (occasionally) is where the TV networks can decide on it being a night game.  We might have played one on like 11/3 before.  But the second weekend in November, and it basically being mid November?  Zero chance as UM has veto power over something that late in the season.
