Championship Game Tickets - UM Allotment

Submitted by Kilgore Trout on December 6th, 2023 at 10:45 PM

I got the email from the Athletic Department a little after 5 today for championship game tickets.

  • 1000 or more points - up to 6 tickets
  • 500-999 points - up to 4 tickets
  • Less than 500 points - up to 3 tickets

Price range $475 - $1300(!!!)

That ticket price definitely ended any ideas I had of trying to go. Holy moly.

Interesting on the less than 500 points... the email they sent out on Sunday 12/3 said the following:

12/3/23

Congratulations to the Michigan football team for capturing its third consecutive Big Ten Championship with a 26-0 victory over Iowa!

Michigan Athletics will take requests for the National Championship game from Wednesday, December 6 - Monday, December 11.  To be eligible to request National Championship tickets, you must be a current football season ticket holder or a donor to Michigan Athletics with 500+ points. Complete details will be communicated via e-mail later this week.

 Thank you and Go Blue!

It pays to be a season ticket holder.  Getting to 500+ points, excluding bonuses for being an alum/etc., as a non-season ticket holder would require $50,000 in athletic donations or $500,000 in university donations.  Shoot, if I did that, I'd hope I'd at least get some ticket priority every now and then.

Please note the 'OR' there.

Basically if you aren't a football season ticket holder for Michigan but have 500+ points then you can still apply.  All season ticket holders can apply for NC tickets.

Yep. I dumped a grand just going to the big championship. Meanwhile my adult son sat next to me and won $1400. We thought about making a road trip out of it, but the thought of driving 24 hrs home if we’d lose is more than I could stomach.

This pricing is basically in line with what the secondary market was for M-OSU tickets this year, once you factor in fees, starting from about the mid season point when I started keeping my eye on it.

I have 260pts and requested 3 tickets.  I think there's zero chance I end up getting any, especially after failing to get any for the Rose Bowl.  If there's any chance at all, it's because they're allotting fewer tickets/person (the Rose Bowl allowed everyone to request up to 8 tickets).

The tough thing is that I don't really want to make travel arrangements for my family until I know if we're going--and doing so on <1 week notice makes me shudder to think of the costs of that. STILL, if I get the tickets I may do it as a once-in-20+-years kind of thing.

I'd happily pay 10% above price for the hassle/imposition to snag a ticket/tag along -

At the risk of sounding too forward, I am in Houston (well, Katy, 20 miles away from NRG) and have a 2-br 1200 sq ft Vegas resort-style new apartment (big pools both buildings, hot tub sits 20, free Starbucks, I can grill out 70-degree weather) -

41 year old male/ gf would most likely not want to go given the price point, so just a solo ticket...

Could work out arrangements for 2nd bedroom /separate bathroom too if accommodations needed. Probably just Uber down and back, half hour each way without traffic.  Been to NRG dozens of times and know the layout well.
