CFP sucks: here's what an ACTUAL playoff would look like

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on December 8th, 2019 at 10:02 PM

  • December 14: First Round games on campuses
  • December 21: Second Round games on campuses
  • NYE & NYD: Quarterfinal Bowl Games (rotation)
  • January 11: Semifinal Bowl Games (rotation)
  • January 20: Rose Bowl National Championship

Rose Bowl should always be the national championship.

10 automatic bids to conference champions

22 at-large bids

I seeded this using the CFP Top-25 and used ESPN FPI to fill the rest out.

Tournament bracket is seeded with an S curve and deviates by preventing any regular season rematches IF POSSIBLE in the First and Second Rounds.

This. Get rid of the meaningless OOC games, start with 9 conference games, and 1 conference championship game, then move to playoff format. Still same amount of games, just way more interesting ones.

Too many teams. Best scenario - 8 teams, power 5 conference champions and 3 at -large.
Get rid of the committee and go back to the old BCS style of ranking teams using the BCS blended style - computer/human averaged.

5 conference champs are in and seeded according to the BCS rank. Next top 3 teams excluding conference champs seeded 6-8 in order of rank.

Round one played two weeks after conference championships at the home of the higher seed. 4 remaining teams continue in a playoff similar to the games now utilizing bowls.

Other changes:
All conferences to play a similar conference schedule of games - either 8 or 9.
No FCS opponents at all.
