OSU's season has always felt like a house of cards, so it wouldn't surprise me to see it crumble quickly.  I get a sense that a decent number of those guys don't really get along all that well under Meyer; it's probably why he tends to move around programs quickly.  I'm sure he plays favorites, and when you don't win that gets old.

Agreed. They have been sleepwalking pretty much the whole season winning on overwhelming talent advantage.  I heard weeks ago on the radio (can't remember where, so who knows the accuracy) that agents were sniffing around OSU tailgates on game days trying to get in with players' parents.  Again, no idea if true, but sure seems likely.  The dark side of having "all the best recruits" is that you are likely to get many guys who care nothing for the school or the team and only for themselves and their future money prospects.  Meyer being the slimeball he is probably only makes that worse.

I remember a few weeks back watching Big Ten Network coverage of an OSU game (can't remember the opponent). They showed video of Meyer shaking hands with each player as they were walking into the stadium before the game with the players still in street clothes (from the buses, I think). Obviously this was totally scripted for the camera and pre-planned. A few of the players kind of smiled as they shook hands, and one or two might have even been genuinely happy. But several players gave these looks like, "Yeah, you're an asshole and this staged event doesn't change that." I wish I could find the video, because it was hilarious...

I have no idea about the agent stuff, but one of the big things you heard about Meyer at Florida was that he let certain guys get away with murder (not literally, okay, maybe sorta literally), such as Percy Harvin apparently attacking coaches and smoking weed constantly and nothing much happening.

He seems like a pretentious asshole, and 100+ kids aren't all going to be snowed over by a couple of kind words and bible verses.  So I'm not surprised that success keeps everyone quiet but that loyalty and love for the program disappears quickly.

That's always been my reaction to the man, but they seem to be snowed over pretty well during recruiting. I've never understood that. When I was that age I really appreciated honesty and sincerity in adults; I'm sure I'd have appreciated it even more if I'd been a sought-after recruit.

Zeke Elliott just said he's going pro too.  Amongst some other things...

But here's my conspiracy theory: Ohio State lost on purpose. Urban Meyer is going to one of the monster job openings like USC, Georgia, LSU, or maybe Texas.

Due to recruiting, he needs to take the job as soon as the regular season is over.  If Ohio State is in the playoff, he can't leave early -- he would be obligated to stick it out and coach through the playoff.  But if they are out of it, he can leave when the regular season is done.  So to be out of the playoff, he needed to lose to Michigan State or Michigan.  Out of shear principle, he can't lose to Michigan so they drop the MSU game on purpose. That way he can still beat Michigan next week, and then leave on a high note.
