The field was lowered in 1991. Prior to 1991 the field was a much duller astroturf that looks nothing like the fieldturf in that picture. Also, the "warning track" was a different color at the time, and the cheerleader outfits were rather more conservative.

A cheerleader who worked before the field was lower would be a minimum of 46 years old.

It's pretty silly how much people think they know. They "know" that the exchange of Jedd for Pep was the problem because the passing offense was worse this year. Nevermind that we went through three QBs and that Wilton Speight, who shouldn't be dependent upon one coordinator to perform, got the yips in the worst way berfore getting hurt. Nevermind protection issues, or potential issues with other parts of the braintrust (Tim Drevno got pulled down to the field midseason, remember?).

Pep may not be cutting it, but nobody on this board can say how or what the issue is with any certainty. Yet certainty is all we get.

It's actually easier and more accurate to look at the larger picture. Can we say something was wrong with the offense? Yes. Can we suggest that staff is an issue? Maybe. It is clear that Harbaugh thinks so, because he's shaking things up. But that's about all we know.

Well, when we see teams all around the country cycle in back-up quarterbacks (sometimes true freshmen at numorous programs) that look more effective than any of the 3 quarterbacks we played last year, that's a bad sign. When not one quarterback can run your system to mild effectiveness, you're fucking up.

People here keep waiting on a savior at quarterback but if it takes a savior to make your passing attack anything but an absolute flaming trash heap, then it's on the coaches.

This is a sports message board for fans. Of course none of us know anything with any certainty. It is silly to assume otherwise. This is the exact place for us fans to express our feelings.

As fans we saw Jedd offense > Pep offense. You say we went through 3 QBs which is slightly misleading. Speight went down and then O'Korn got benched for sucking, not from injury or anything else. Isn't that the fault of a coach to not have Peters prepared better to be the #2 over O'Korn? But then Peters did go down against Wisconsin.

Speight got the yips...for 17 straight quarters??? And thats not counting his struggles at the end of last season or the spring game. The yips, or nerves are something you might get in your first game. But to use nerves as an excuse for over 3 games is flawed. At that point its not the yips, it's something much worse.

For what its worth umbig11 has been less than thrilled with Pep this season and he is the most certain fan on the board.

He has to be a WR coach there, right? If so, the lack of a WR coach at one of the youngest positions on the roster last year makes less sense to me. Maybe he had a bigger role with the receivers than his title let on.

I’m not trying to be funny or anything, but why does everyone blame Pep for the offenses woes? I can get the Drevno hate, but Pep inherent... well, we know what Pep inherited as far as qb’s are concerned.

Speight lost his top three weapons, deveon, and had a weak line. The osu game showed me that the coaching staff and their play calling was handcuffed by the qb play

Wtf Pep was in charge of. He was here only one year and,”certain people on this board want to believe!” It was Pep Hamilton’s fault! So if Pep is so darn bad. Why would,”Chuckie” take him at the drop of a hat? FOH
Our fanbase is becoming toxic. It’s like they go to practice and say hey coach,”what happened against USC?” That dern Pep, he blew it!

So assuming all the rumors have been correct so far, which for the most part they have. This is likely whats happening and has happened.

1) Brian Smith S- Out

Devin Bush Sr- In

2) Greg Frey OL - Out

Drevno- Demoted? (OL and Run game coordinator)

3) Pep Hamilton- Out (Likely to happen)

Dan Enos- In

4) Chris Partridge- Out?

Al Washington- In

5) New OC hire?

6) Position coach?

So given these are the moves, it leaves the staff with two more hires left.

If we are at a point where we are celebrating a coordinator being poached because we think Harbaugh is incapable of hiring the right coaching staff without other teams stealing his assistants, then our problems are so bad they're practically to the point of hopelessness. With or without Pep, Harbaugh is going to take steps to improve the way this offense is run. If it works out, great, but if not it won't be because some NFL team didn't take one of his assistants.

I really think that Harbaugh knows more about college football than anyone on this blog or message board.

He said we need to be stronger. He went out and got a new S&C coach.

I think it was obvious to him - not just to us - that we had deficient QB play this year. So, he goes out and gets a committment from Shea Patterson.

He has addressed perceived problems/weaknesses in a pretty short period of time post season's end. I think he'll continue to do so and hope it works out for the best. So many seem to be so impatient for changes/moves to be made but, in real life, there are often so many moving parts and things take time.

Even if some of the disparaged assistants stay in place, I'd be shocked if there aren't significant changes on offense next season. Harbaugh is not blind or dumb.

Sam Webb reported, back when Patterson first announced he would be leaving Ole Miss, that Michigan did not have any interest in him and everything was silent for a week or so. Then Speight announced his transfer and the Patterson thing happened very quickly. Then Sam discussed his interview with Peters' dad who confirmed that Michigan had initially told him no but changed their minds once Speight transferred. So that's as close to proven as you will get.

If the raiders want to hire him Don't you think maybe hes good enough for us maybe the problem is the players we have playing what position

Clearly, regardless of reasons why, what Pep was running was producing dogshit. What would you do? Keep slamming against the same wall and to hell with the ticket buyers? That’s very RR like and IMHO that don’t fly. Ever.
When Peps scheme was adjusted(Harbaugh or Harbaugh/Drevno?) things improved. What was Pep planning on doing? Same crap? Is it his only tune?

The idea that any coach/coordinator is a one trick pony and results be damned is beyond my comprehension. If that is the case(coach = system) then to hell with all of them. Many HS coaches are better than all of them. I played on a team that went 0-3 starting the season running the pro set power I that the coach always ran. Between week 3-4 we scrapped it. Learned a single wing/motion O improved by game and finished 5-4. This coach is not in the Michigan HS HOF by any shot. I’d consider him decent to good.
The idea that we have to ever just endure futility & confusion with the too easily accepted “learning the system” is screwed up.
Like it or note, I salute Hoke/Borges for coaching to win the game. They had manball as first choice but quickly adapted to Denard & Co. Surely Hoke later ran up against shortcomings in player development & in game adjustments that showed the ceiling for his crew. But at least he wasn’t either 1. Arrogant and stubborn enough or 2. Incapable of adjustment to give us Threet running a read option.

Malzhan read one book(Gregory double wing) and fielded a competitive offense. This shit ain’t rocket science.

So looking like Enos will fill the Jedd/Pep role as PGC/QB/WR.  I'm fine with this.  Everyone says he's a great position coach and some Arkansas fans said his playcalling was fine.

And then the last offensive staff spot would be between that CMU coach, Chris Bryant, or Kurt Anderson.  Moore and Anderson have familiarity/comfort with Enos, and Bryant is a guy Harbaugh brought into the fold after his eligibility was up at Michigan.

All three of our quarterbacks played tentatively this year. It seemed like they were playing scared.

Pep Hamilton isn't any good at building confidence in a quarterback. That's a huge factor in winning.

This would be especially true for a young college quarterback.

Oh, Pep Hamilton
When America sings for you
Will they know what you overcame?
Will they know you rewrote your game?
The world will never be the same, oh
Pep Hamilton!

That Pep singlehandedly turned our offense upside down. I've noticed one of the most common playcalls this year involved seven step drops which would often result in a rushed deep ball or a sack.

His reluctance to use quick developing plays suchas slants and quick outs under center was baffling. Last season with Jedd, the offense had a bit of personality to it, but this year it just took a nosedive, with seemingly no creativity to speak of.
